Mount Vernon Place UMC

Mount Vernon Place United Methodist Church is a prime example of Victorian Gothic architecture. All are welcome.

Conceived of as a "Cathedral of Methodism," the building was designed by Thomas Dixon and Charles L. Carson and completed on November 12, 1872 in what was then the outskirts of the city. The church sits on the site of the mansion of Charles Howard, who was married to Elizabeth Phoebe Key. Her father, Francis Scott Key, the author of The Star Spangled Banner, died here in his daughter's home. It is

Topic (from enfleshed): She’s calling to us. We can stop what we’re doing. We can pause even if just for a second. She’s asking us out for a stroll. She knows everything about us, but She also wants to be known. You can’t get to know Her if you’re always working. You can’t recognize Her voice if you never have time to listen for Her. If you only work, when do you praise? When do you heal? When do you resist? When do you shine? Those who know God best remember what it was like to be slaves. The law is sacred memory that we can operate a different way.

Join us on May 26th at Noon for Faith & Film. We plan on ordering pizza for those of us who will be at the Church service and Faith & Film. Let us know if you plan to join us and want us to order pizza for you (be sure to note any dietary restrictions).

We will watch a documentary about the rise of Christian nationalism.

Christian nationalism has hs come up in conversations almost weekly at MVP. A PRRI report earlier this year found that all 50 states have a sizeable number of people who identify as Christian nationalists, with about 30% of all Americans (19% of Marylanders) either identifying as Christian nationalist adherents or sympathizers.

We can offer this as a hybrid event, but the video quality will be best in person.
