Today, may we notice the people who are easily overlooked and ask how we can offer dignity, presence and care.

Our own Dr. Skipp Sanders is among the recipients of the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice Award, the Church's "Medal of Honor" recognized by our Holy Father Pope Leo XIV himself. We are proud beyond telling!

"Dr. Askew “Skipp” Sanders is a retired educator and racial justice advocate who is a longtime parishioner of St. Vincent de Paul in Baltimore. He served Maryland’s public schools for three decades before joining Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Baltimore as an associate superintendent. He went on to serve as executive director of the Reginald F. Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History and Culture in Baltimore until his retirement in 2016.

“Through their lives and ministry, the honorees for pontifical orders and medals have made significant contributions to the life and mission of the Church,” Archbishop Lori said. “His Holiness Pope Leo XIV bestows these highly distinguished honors in recognition of their devoted service to Catholic health care and mental health treatment, their commitment to charity and justice for the most vulnerable and marginalized, their efforts to build vibrant communities of faith, and the many other ways they have revealed the love of Christ to their neighbors.

“Their example inspires others to live the Gospel with courage, compassion and joy. The Archdiocese of Baltimore remains profoundly grateful for their faithful service."

Archbishop William E. Lori will bestow honors from Pope Leo XIV upon 21 members of the laity, clergy and religious of the Archdiocese of Baltimore for their service to the Church and community.

Prayer for Pets

In your infinite wisdom, Lord God, when You created the Universe You blessed us with living creatures. We especially thank You for giving us our pets who are our friends and who bring us so much joy in life. Their presence very often helps us get through trying times. Kindly bless my pet. May my pet continue giving me joy and remind me of Your power. May we realize that as our pets trust us to take care of them, so we should trust You to take care of us, and in taking care of them we share in Your love for all Your creatures. Enlighten our minds to preserve all endangered species so that we may continue to appreciate all of Your creations. Grant this though Christ our Lord. Amen.

Today we remember, St. Gertrude of Nivelles, a 7th-century abbess remembered for her deep faith, generous hospitality, and unwavering devotion to prayer. Her feast day is often overlooked as she shares it with St. Patrick.

St. Gertrude dedicated her life to welcoming pilgrims, caring for those in need, and building a community centered on Christ. Because of her hospitality to travelers and her care for her monastery, she is honored today as the patron saint of travelers, and protection from mice and rats (making her the assumed "patron saint" of cats).

Her life reminds us that holiness is often found in the quiet, everyday acts of kindness—opening our hearts to others, serving with humility, and creating places where people feel welcomed and loved.

As we celebrate St. Gertrude today, may we seek her intercession for all who are traveling, for those tending God's creation, and for our own parish community, that we may always be a place of welcome, compassion, and faith.
