Building a faithful community of inclusion since 2010 The Community of St. Matthew live up to its mission of welcoming.

Matthew is rich in tradition, united in mission, and blessed with diversity of culture, ethnicity, and heritage. This description of St Matthew is important because we profess that “all are welcome.” All includes those of diverse sexual orientations and gender identities. Thus, our LEAD Ministry was started in 2011 to educate and affirm diversity, helping St. The ministry began in response to a r

equest from a mother of a gay son and lesbian daughter. LEAD now has over 30 active and committed members, staffing several committees – Networking/Outreach, Education, and Fundraising. Our members, gay and straight, are involved in all aspects of parish life. The people of LEAD invite you to join us in this Gospel work. Only together can we sing, “all are welcome.

LEAD is a Catholic community. There are individuals who cannot attend Mass, who cannot be in Communion with Christ and their neighbors due to terror in their communities. To support this terror is to be anti-Catholic. Full stop.

Stealing is a sin, yes, but I've been thinking about who I am and been stealing from the Saints. St. Ignatius of Loyola wrote that we should assume the best of our neighbors' intentions. Assume people mean well.

When we assume transgender people (or any marginalized group) are t*rror*sts/extremists/freaks/etc, we deny the fact they're made in God's image, when all people are. Isn't that a disservice to God? To the Christ who died on the Cross, marginalized until his last breath on Earth?

It's been hard lately, because, you know, *gestures vaguely*. But if there's one type of stealing that I think will hopefully be okay next time I walk into Confession, it's stealing the Saints' philosophy of living.

Let's look at this from a cultural perspective - transgender people aren't trying to wipe out culture or the Church, they aren't t*rror*sts or extremists. Transgender people are trying to go about their lives. Right now, trans people in our communities are wrapping holiday presents, planning meals, digging through storage bins trying to find last year's coats, and just trying to survive.
