The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. (Proverbs 9:10)
One of the greatest dangers facing the modern church is not a lack of church attendance, conferences, sermons, or worship services—it is a lack of the fear of God.
Many stand in His house, lift their hands, sing His name, preach His Word, and yet continue in deliberate rebellion without repentance. The danger of calling on Jesus while refusing to abide in Him is that we become spiritually desensitized. Over time, our hearts grow dull, our consciences become seared, and we lose the very thing that is meant to separate us from the world.
The world does not obey Christ. The world does not submit to His commandments. The world does not seek holiness. Yet many who claim to know Him are living no differently. If there is no distinction between the believer and the unbeliever, what testimony remains?
Jesus did not call us merely to profess His name. He called us to follow Him.
Holiness is not legalism—it is evidence of transformation. Obedience is not bondage—it is the fruit of love. A life submitted to Christ is a witness that the Holy Spirit is at work within us.
There is a danger in continually speaking the name of Jesus while refusing His lordship. We can become so familiar with His name that we stop trembling at His Word.
Scripture says:
“Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?” — Luke 6:46
Those who are born of the Spirit are called to crucify the flesh, deny themselves, and walk in obedience. The mark of a disciple is not simply what they profess with their mouth, but what is revealed through their life.
May the Church return to the fear of the Lord, to holiness, to repentance, and to obedience. For the fear of God is not merely an emotion—it is a reverent awe that produces a life that honors Him.
The world needs more than people who know His name. The world needs people who look like Him.
