“Whatever you do for your family, your children, your husband, your wife, you do for God. All we do, our prayers, our work, our suffering, is for Jesus.” • Mother Teresa of Calcutta

Wishing you a blessed feast of the Holy Family! We are immensely grateful for the blessing of our Cathedral family and the opportunity to grow closer to Our Lord together.

May we always strive to represent Christ to others and draw one another deeper into familial relationship with God the Father.

"To become the mother of the Savior, Mary 'was enriched by God with gifts appropriate to such a role.' The angel Gabriel at the moment of the annunciation salutes her as 'full of grace.' In fact, in order for Mary to be able to give the free assent of her faith to the announcement of her vocation, it was necessary that she be wholly borne by God's grace.

Through the centuries, the Church has become ever more aware that Mary, 'full of grace' through God, was redeemed from the moment of her conception. That is what the dogma of the Immaculate Conception confesses," • The Catechism of the Catholic Church, 490-491

Blessed Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception!

“Jesus went up the mountain to pray, and he spent the night in prayer to God. When day came, he called his disciples to himself, and from them he chose Twelve, whom he also named Apostles: Simon, whom he named Peter, and his brother Andrew, James, John, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, Simon who was called a Zealot, and Judas the son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.” • Luke 6:12-16 (Gospel for the day)

Apostles Simon and Jude, pray for us!

And Mary said, “My soul magnifies the Lord,
and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
for he has regarded the low estate of his handmaiden.
For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed;
for he who is mighty has done great things for me,
and holy is his name.
And his mercy is on those who fear him
from generation to generation.
He has shown strength with his arm,
he has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts,
he has put down the mighty from their thrones,
and exalted those of low degree;
he has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he has sent empty away.
He has helped his servant Israel,
in remembrance of his mercy,
as he spoke to our fathers,
to Abraham and to his posterity for ever.”
• Luke 1:46-55

"According to a pious tradition, Luke is thought to have painted the image of Mary, the Virgin Mother. But the real portrait that Luke draws of Jesus' Mother is the one that emerges from the pages of his work: in scenes that have become familiar to the People of God, he draws an eloquent image of the Virgin... What is most important however is to discover that, through pictures of Marian life, Luke introduces us to Mary's interior life, helping us at the same time to understand her unique role in salvation history." • Pope Saint John Paul II, Message to the Archbishop of Padua for the Feast of the Saint Luke the Evangelist

Happy Feast of Saint Luke!

“No earthly pleasures, no kingdoms of this world can benefit me in any way. I prefer death in Christ Jesus to power over the farthest limits of the earth…Let me attain pure light. Only on my arrival there can I be fully a human being.” • A letter to the Romans by St. Ignatius of Antioch, Bishop and Martyr

Condemned to death by being thrown to wild animals, St. Ignatius of Antioch was brought to Rome for ex*****on and was martyred there under the Emperor Trajan in 107. On the journey to Rome he wrote seven letters to different churches, encouraging them not to stop his martyrdom and giving final teachings about Christ and His Church.

St. Ignatius of Antioch, pray for us!

“Let nothing disturb you
Let nothing frighten you
All things are passing away;
God never changes.
Patience obtains all things
Whoever has God lacks nothing;
God alone suffices.” • Poem by St. Teresa of Avila, Virgin and Doctor of the Church
