A WORD OF ENCOURAGEMENT FROM THE PASTOR

It is true that nothing can separate us from the Love of God. Neither snow nor ice nor ICE police, nor racism, nor bad finances, nor high food prices, nor high blood pressure, nor arthritis, nor gout, nor cancer nor heart disease, nor depression, nor grief, neither accident, nor injury, nor gossiping enemies, nor misguided friends, neither height nor depth or anything else in all creation can separate us from The Love Of God In Jesus Christ. Friends, Be Encouraged.

A WORD OF ENCOURAGEMENT FROM THE PASTOR

The Book of Genesis tells us that God Made Everything and called it “good”. That does not seem to make sense in the world in which we live. How can this world which God Made be good? It is true that “God Is Good All the Time” but everything isn’t good all the time. Instead of complaining about how “bad” the world is, we need to understand how God is bringing forth good out of evil, joy out of sorrow, freedom out of captivity and salvation out of sin. After we realize that God Is Constantly working to Bring Forth the Good that God Created, perhaps we need to go about doing the same. Friends Be Encouraged.

A WORD OF ENCOURAGEMENT FROM THE PASTOR
Each day that The Lord Gives is a blessing. It is a time to Thank God for the breath of life and our physical bodies. It is a time to Thank God for our family and friends. It is also a time to correct yesterday’s wrongs and forgive yesterday’s offenses. Not all of God’s Blessings are positive. God also Gives us trials to test our faith, struggles to make us stronger and new experiences to expand our understanding. The blessings of pain may also be the blessings of purpose. We are called to seek God’s Blessing in every day no matter what that blessing may be. Friends, Be Encouraged

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Almighty God, You are the giver of every good and perfect gift. You grant us the things that we need and often the things that we want. Lord, we confess that we have not considered what “gift” to give to You. Our holiday time is spent giving our children the gadgets and games that they want instead of the love that they need. We send our seniors lovely cards and monetary gifts, but not the gift of our precious time and caring attention. We get so caught up in the holiday anticipation that we forget about Your salvation. Forgive us O Lord, for not seeing this “holiday” as a “holy day”. Through Jesus, Giver of New Life, AMEN

A PRAYER OF CONFESSION

O God, of all creation, You give us basic rules to have a full life with You and harmony with all creation. You tell us not to lie and we not only tell lies but we live lies and deceive those around us. You tell us not to steal, and we steal each other's ideas without proper credit. We also steal burdens that are not ours and mess that is none of our business. You tell us not covet, and we spend precious time and money getting things just because others have them. You tell us not to commit adultery, and O God, we confess that sometimes our hearts even long for the spouse of another. You tell us to honor Your Sabbath day and put You first in everything. We confess that our Sabbath is spent working instead of resting and that You are last instead of first. Lord please forgive us our sins. Make us new, lead us to be more like You.
Through Jesus Christ, Your Son AMEN

Many of you have been blessed by the Words of Encouragement from The Pastor. Our Sunday worship service also (like many churches) has a Prayer of Confession. The confession is necessary to "clear the air" so that we can face The Lord with our sins both revealed and forgiven. Many years ago I became frustrated with the confessions that were mechanically read from the back of a hymnal or from some generic publication. At Cherry Hill Presbyterian, we read our own confessions and they have blessed our worship tremendously.

A Prayer of Confession (Thanksgiving)
We can be so ungrateful O God, The traffic upsets us and we don’t thank You for the car that You Gave to us. Our children upset us and we don’t thank You for their safe and healthy birth. Our bodies hurt but we don’t thank You that they work at all. We are stressed by the “stuff” that we have and don’t thank You for providing our wants as well as our needs. We are stressed by our boss and don’t thank you for the employment that You Have Given. We complain about the day’s events and don’t thank You for Giving us each day, whatever it may bring. We see some family members as burdens and vexations, but we don’t thank You for giving us relatives that need love just like we do. Lord, forgive our ungratefulness. Teach us to make our gratitude increase and our complaints decrease.
Through Jesus Your Grateful Son, AMEN

A WORD OF ENCOURAGEMENT FROM THE PASTOR
O God, we are thankful that we can still tell the truth from a lie. We are thankful that we can trust our own understanding instead of someone else’s advice. We are thankful that we can choose love and comfort over hatred and division. We are thankful that Your Word Gives us clarity in the presence of so much confusion. We thank You that our peace does not depend on our politics or our bank accounts. We thank You that we can still love someone no matter who they voted for. We thank You that You are a God of our beginning, and that You will be the God of our end. Thank You O God For Being Our God. Friends, Be Encouraged.

A WORD OF ENCOURAGEMENT FROM THE PASTOR

Our nation and our world are filled with individuals. We are all part of a larger human family, yet each of us is unique in our own way. There are those who feel the need to tell others the “right” thing to do or way to go. This advice may be helpful for them, but it may not be helpful for you. We are also limited in our knowledge of each other. There are things about us that our critics and our advisors neither know nor understand. There are even some things about us that some people will never understand. We are called to first listen to “the still small voice” that lies between us and God. It is The Lord Who Will Guide us on the journey that is especially for us. Friends Be Encouraged

A WORD OF ENCOURAGEMENT FROM THE PASTOR

The past is done! We cannot go back and change it even if we wanted to. Our words and deeds tell God and everybody who we are and who we serve
The past has a way of binding us to our mistakes and blinding us to our possibilities. Our past can cause us to fear our future and forget our freedom. However, we can dare to embrace the perils of our past to discover a new future. The permanence of our past can lay the foundation for a tomorrow without yesterday’s failures. May we choose to receive and acknowledge our past today so that we can have the strength to do better tomorrow! Friends Be Encouraged.

A WORD OF ENCOURAGEMENT FROM THE PASTOR

Blessings do not come in sizes. Every blessing is a gift of God Given to God’s Children. The kindest word can be just as meaningful as the largest gift. The sacrifice of time can be just as significant as the largest dollar contribution. Then there is the blessing of one more day that is greater than any amount of money. The compliments and care that we give to others daily can mean the world to someone desperately in need of love. So, when we feel down, let’s start counting the many different blessings that we have received. There are no greater or less blessings. They are all from God and they are all PRICELESS! Friends Be Encouraged
AMEN
