It was a beautiful day from start to finish with the good folks of Ascension, Deer Creek Parish (Scarborough). It felt good to pray right from the Book of Common Prayer. I was the only clergy person there, so I got to proclaim the Gospel, set the Table, and offer the dismissal, which I haven’t done for a while! 😊. Their fellowship time was amazing. (I’m now a fan of breakfast Stromboli ). And I thoroughly enjoyed my conversation with this small and mighty parish. What a wonderful, caring community of faith! They only have a priest with them about once a month, which works for this lay-led, clergy supported parish, but if there’s a priest who has some extra time on Sunday morning, or someone who could lead a weekday evening Bible study, they’d love it. And you’ll love them!

Our Deans were amazing today as we gathered together on zoom with clergy and lay leaders. My photos are not 🤦🏻‍♀️.
I’m grateful for the way they’re leading in our new diocesan configuration experiment.
(Dean Joe Zollickoffer+ is also leading well in the northern part of our diocese, but he was attending well to a pastoral need)
The Holy Spirit is up to something here!

It was a joy to join the Corporation’s annual dinner and meeting tonight. The Corporation for Relief of the Widows and Children of the Clergy for the Protestant Episcopal Church in Maryland has been serving clergy and survivors since 1784. The current staff and board are serving so well. This event brings together folks from the dioceses of Easton, Washington, and Maryland. There are so many strands of connection through our dioceses. It’s good to be together!
Big surprise: although steak and grilled fish were also offered — the vast majority of us enjoyed crab cakes on the waterfront in Annapolis! 🦀

💜B+E+S+T💜 (Bishops’ Executive Secretaries Together)
Province III hosted this year’s B+E+S+T conference and the bishops were invited to help kick off the conference. We were treated to a spectacular meal, a beautiful Eucharist, and a fun “Mitre Mixer” where we got to meet groups of “Besties” and answer questions. So much fun! The bishops were there to show the love for the wonderful folks who are called to this ministry. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to offer our gratitude for these folks who support us so well. 💕

Today, representatives from Province III gathered for our annual Synod to learn, connect, and take care of a little business. Our Province is made up of dioceses from: Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, and Washington DC. We heard updates from important collaborative ministries and enjoyed an engaging presentation by the Rev Dr. Michael DeLashmutt (of General Seminary) about A.I. He helped us think through the ethical and theological dimensions of this new technology. Such a compelling — and deeply Anglican — conversation! Shout out to Canon Kristin Krantz who gave an amazing update on the College for Congregational Development! We met in the Diocese of West Virginia, but funny enough — the bishop of WV might have had the longest commute! The geography in our corner of God’s kingdom is delightfully complex and beautiful.

Clergy and Lay leaders gathering in our new Mountain deanery. (3rd church of the day 🥰)
I’m grateful for the hospitality of Emmanuel, Cumberland, who hosted our gathering this afternoon. We enjoyed fellowship, learnings, and challenging and stimulating discussions. Together.
I’m grateful. 🙏🏻

❤️ church ❤️ The story of this visit is so much better than the photos I took.
St. James, Westernport. 2nd church of the day 🥰
A few years ago, Mt. Calvary Lutheran church in Westernport reached the end of its ministry. Faithful Lutherans made their way down the hill to St. James Episcopal Church, who *knew* how to welcome them. Their Holy Hospitality opened a way for God to do a new thing. And today, this thriving congregation welcomed over a dozen new Episcopalians, formally. In the Episcopal Church, we proclaim, “All are Welcome”. St. James is a valedictorian in this endeavor — naturally, compassionately, boldly. 💕. And this morning, in addition to a Baptism, we officially welcomed about half of the congregation into the Episcopal Church!
I’m so grateful for the Holy Spirit’s movement in this — and also for the leadership of the Revs. Garrett Carskadon, John Martin, and Brad Williams.
Thanks be to God.
Also — the buffet after the service was 🔥🔥🔥 I’m still feeling full! 😁

St. Peter’s, Lonaconing. 1st of 3 churches today 🥰
St. Peter’s is a steadfast anchor of faith, tucked into a picturesque nook along the banks of George’s Creek (dear reader, please read this properly as “Crick”)
The roots of faithfulness are deep and broad here. The church is a beautiful cornerstone of the physical landscape of “‘Coney” and its ministries contribute to the heartbeat of this community and throughout the valley.
What a joy to serve with Deacon Sue Wert, the Rev. John Martin, and the recently ordained Rev. Brad Williams!

In advance of my Sunday visits to Lonaconing and Westernport, Keith and I had some grand adventures in Washington and Allegheny counties today! I didn’t get pictures of everything, but as you can see — there were great antiques, great views, and great eats!
