For the rest of the Easter season we will be camping out in the book of Revelation with a mini-series entitled, "Revelation Songs: Praising Our Risen Lord." Our first 2 Sundays of the series, we are meditating upon the heavenly throne room visions John receives from the risen Jesus in chapters 4 and 5. We get to listen in on five different "Revelation Songs" from just these 2 chapters, and hopefully we will be inspired to join in on these songs both as we worship together and as we live out these words in our daily lives. These 5 heavenly hymns are included below for your reference, and for your encouragement!

4:8 (4 living creatures):
“Holy, holy, holy
is the Lord God Almighty,
who was, and is, and is to come.”

4:11 (24 elders):
“You are worthy, our Lord and God,
to receive glory and honor and power,
for you created all things,
and by your will they were created
and have their being.”

5:9-10 (4 living creatures + 24 elders):
“You are worthy to take the scroll
and to open its seals,
because you were slain,
and with your blood you purchased for God
persons from every tribe and language and people and nation.
You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God,
and they will reign on the earth.”

5:12 (myriads/millions of angels):
“Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain,
to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength
and honor and glory and praise!”

5:13 (every creature):
“To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb
be praise and honor and glory and power,
for ever and ever!”

What a blessed Easter Sunday it was at Lafayette! We so enjoyed our time together worshipping, fellowshipping, eating, having fun, and reveling in the message that Mary shared with the apostles that first Easter morning: "I have seen the LORD!"

We want to see the Lord, and share the Lord, each and every Sunday and each and every season of our lives. Easter is the announcement that in the hands of God, the great I AM, every grave can become a garden.

April 2026 is upon us! In addition to our time together on Easter, this month we begin a new Wednesday adult study; various smaller groups will gather together in their usual rhythms; there are areawide efforts to participate in; and we have a celebration of life for a long-time and beloved sister. The Middle email will always contain further details, or see Kyle or the respective ministry leaders!

We also begin a new month of Bible readings. There is nothing sacred about beginning a plan on January 1 in Genesis--if you're in a rut, consider jumping back in this month with readings from Mark, 1 Cor., Psalms, or Joshua, Judges, Ruth.

"...to those sanctified in Christ Jesus and called to be his holy people, together with all those everywhere who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ--their Lord and ours: Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ." (1 Cor. 1:2-3)

We always enjoy and are blessed by our quarterly "Lafayette Sings"! Tonight we shared in a wonderful pasta and salad dinner, and boxed up leftovers for a variety of shut-ins and others in need of a meal train. We then got out the songbooks and sang some classic hymns, along with learning two newer songs. We should never be left unchanged after a night spent praising God and sharing in community with God's people!

-------

"With every breath I long to follow Jesus,
For He has said that He will bring me home.
And day by day I know He will renew me,
Until I stand with joy before the throne.

To this I hold, my hope is only Jesus,
All the glory evermore to Him.
When the race is complete, still my lips shall repeat:
Yet not I, but through Christ in me!"

March has arrived! Let's be looking forward to these upcoming events, gatherings, and "rhythms of life" at Lafayette!

The final 2 weeks of our 11-week study on Jesus' farewell discourse focused on the astounding prayer of Jesus recorded across the entirety of John 17. We concluded this study by praying our own prayer that echoes the core themes of Jesus' prayer. You can find the prayer below--one that could be offered by any disciple, at any time, in any circumstance.

----------

"Our Father in heaven,
Holy is your name.

We come to You through Your Son and our Lord Jesus, and by the Holy Spirit, our Advocate. We are grateful that we are not guessing how to pray, because we have heard our Savior pray.

We ask for what He asked: make us one.
Give us a real sense of unity shaped by truth and our common bond of love.
Remove pride, rivalry, suspicion, and any other obstacles to unity among us.
Teach us to bear with one another, in love.
Let the world see in our love and unity, a reflection of the love and unity You have shared eternally with Your Son.

Father, we also ask to deepen our life with You.
Teach us to depend on You in all the days of our lives, not only in crisis.
Let Your word live in us and shape our daily desires.
Help us to know You--not merely to know about You--and for your joy to be fulfilled in us.

You have left us here in the world, though we are not of it.
You created us, the world around us, and all who are in it.
Give us courage, patience, and hope.
Keep us from being shaped by fear, anger, despair, or hatred.
When trials come, hold us fast, and keep us.
Make us faithful witnesses in a world that often does not yet understand your love.

Guard us also from the evil one, and his varied temptations.
Guard our minds from lies and deceit, our hearts from bitterness, and our lives from hidden sin.
Sanctify us in Your truth; Your word is truth.
Make us holy people, set apart for You in thought, word, and deed.

Finally, Father, as You sent Your Son into the world, now send us.
Open doors for Your love, unity, and compassion to be seen through us.
Give us eyes to notice those who are searching and seeking after You.
Give us boldness to speak of Jesus and his gospel with humility, passion, and sincerity.
Let us be and make disciples in our families, in our community, and in our world.
May Christ be known in and through us.

We do not ask any of these things by our own wisdom,
but because Your Son prayed for people like us,
and because You delight to answer the prayers He taught us to pray.

Keep us, Father, as we seek to keep ourselves in Your love.
Keep us until the day we see Your glory, in full.

And all of God's people, said,
Amen."

Today we blessed 5 baby boys and their families, as we continue to give thanks for and cherish these gifts of new life in the world and within our church family. We pray that each of these little ones will come to know the Lord and will become people of love who walk as Jesus walked (1 John 2:6). They are already a blessing to Lafayette, and we will strive to be a blessing to them and their families in the many days and years ahead.

"I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well."
(Psalm 139:13)
