As-Salamu ‘alaikum respected Imams, brothers, and sisters,
This letter is regarding M***i Jameel Ahmed’s “fundraising” (fundstealing) event expected to be held on January 1st, 2022 at Masjid Al-Rasheed, in Baldwin. The Muslim Brothers of Oceanside had a dream of having a Masjid in their locality for years. M***i Jameel Ahmed asked the Muslim brothers throughout Long Island for help in establishing a Masjid in Baldwin. He claimed that he had a contract on the property signed already. We helped Masjid fundraising endeavors to purchase a property for the Masjid, and we entrusted Jameel Ahmed to take care of the funds. It turned out that we trusted the wrong person. Jameel Ahmed betrayed the whole community which donated for the Masjid. We bought the property intended for the Masjid under “Al Raheem Islamic Institute of North America,” then Jameel Ahmed transferred it to his family-owned corporation “Masjid Al-Rasheed,” and withdrew all the money via checks, thereby keeping everything to himself. There is no one else in the corporation other than him and his family members, and there is no board supervising any activities. He refuses to form a board with members from the community. The community raised over $700,000 for the Masjid, but Jameel Ahmed is claiming that only $318,000 was raised. At the moment, Jameel Ahmed is collecting rent from tenants in this tax-free property, can steal all the money raised during future fundraising events, and he can even sell the property and take all the money for himself if he chooses to do so. No one is overseeing his activities, and when asked why he betrayed the community and committed fraud, he said everyone else is doing the same thing. When we asked him to be transparent about the allocation of funds, he said transparency is not permissible in Islam. Jameel Ahmed has proven to be treacherous; he will use the title of “M***i” to deceive people into giving him money, as he has done in the past. In fact, we eventually found out that Jameel Ahmed was not a graduate of Darul Uloom Deoband India as he claimed. We also found out that he had a history of being kicked out of multiple Masjids for what seems to be ethical reasons; perhaps this is why he wanted his own Masjid, so that he can be completely autonomous in his theft and deception of Muslims. He is a crook, thief, and fraudster. If others had warned us against him, we would not have been deceived into raising so much money for this crook, so we deem it to be our duty to warn others against him. It is our advice for everyone to abstain from helping Jameel Ahmed further deceive the Muslims through his upcoming fundstealing event.
