Day Starter: “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which He hath ordained that we should walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:10) In Christ we are a new creature rising from the waters of baptism to walk in the newness of life as the workers in the Lord’s kingdom, the church. The works are appointed by God as revealed in His inspired words recorded in the Bible. As disciples of Christ we desire to limit ourselves to the works He has authorized in the Bible without alteration, addition or subtraction. The faithful children of God rely on His guidance for we trust in His wisdom and not our own to determine what will edify and strengthen our faith and resolve to worship the Father through His Son and live a life that pleases Him. It is sad that so many today have been deceived by the devil into thinking they can please God by worshiping as they want rather than according to the instructions the Father has given through His Son. The church Jesus built and will save can be identified as the church that follows His instructions given in the written words of the Bible. (2 Corinthians 5:17; Romans 6:3-4; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; Colossians 3:17; Galatians 1:6-9; Revelation 22:18-19; Proverbs 3:5; 1 Corinthians 14:26; John 8:44; Hebrews 1:1-2; Matthew 16:18; Ephesians 5:22-23; 1 Corinthians 14:37)

Day Starter: “So shall the knowledge of wisdom be unto thy soul: when thou hast found it, then there shall be a reward, and thy expectation shall not be cut off.” (Proverbs 24:14) Using wisdom in the decisions we make in our daily lives has great rewards that follow in accordance with the promises of God. Did you notice the reward followed exercising wisdom in obeying the will of the Lord? I have heard of some who try to bargain with God when seeking His blessings by promising to do His will if He will grant their request. They do not understand, with God our obedience to His will is followed by the blessings He bestows on His faithful children. Jesus said if we want to receive His blessing we must seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness. If we want God to hear us, we must first hear Him by obeying His commandments. Anyone, and everyone, who truly obeys the will of the Lord in repenting of their sins and walking in the light of His word can have their sins washed away by the powerful blood of Jesus Christ. Note: the cleansing follows the obedience, not the other way around. I will strive to exercise wisdom thinking, speaking and acting in a way that is pleasing to God so I can receive His blessings in this life, and an eternal home in heaven. (1 Timothy 6:3-6; Ephesians 1:3; Matthew 6:33; Proverbs 1:27-31; Acts 2:38-39; Acts 22:16; 1 John 1:7; 1 Peter 1:18-23; Psalms 19:4 & 15:1-2)

Day Starter: “As for God, His way is perfect: the word of the Lord is tried: He is a buckler to all those that trust in Him.” (Psalms 18:30) The way of God is perfect in everything He does and His word is perfect converting the souls of men. He is a buckler (shield and protector) of all who trust in Him and His word promising to provide a way of escape for each temptation we face in this life. Those who put on the armor of God, His inspired words of the Bible, will be able to stand against the devil and overcome him in our daily lives. Our trust and faith in God and His promises is necessary to please Him and maintain a right relationship with Him. The source of that faith must be our own personal study of the word of God, otherwise our faith is only in those who have told us about God. Jesus said we could know the truth, and the truth could set us free from our sin if we would continue in obedience to His word. Our Lord also promised to save all those who would choose to obey His commandments. The only way we can truly know we are obeying the commandments of the Lord is to study the Bible because there are many false teachers in the world today. (James 1:25; Psalms 19:7; 1 Corinthians 10:13; Ephesians 6:10-17; Hebrews 11:6; John 8:31-32; Hebrews 5:8-9; 1 John 4:1)

Day Starter: “Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer.” (1 Corinthians 10:10) The Lord is teaching us that we ought not to complain as the Israelites complained to Moses and Aaron in the wilderness after God had delivered them from Egyptian bo***ge. These things are written for a warning that we should not fall by the same lack of faith that caused so many to perish in the wilderness wanderings. Our knowledge of the word of God should help our faith to be strong and know the Lord is aware of our needs, both physical and spiritual, and has promised to provide those things for us in accordance with His will. God has demonstrated His willingness and ability to provide our needs by giving His Son to die as the atoning sacrifice for the sins of the whole world. Focusing on the love of God and the love of Jesus that provided that sacrifice for us helps us to trust in the Lord to provide whatever He sees we need today. Therefore, we can learn to be content with the blessings He gives us today knowing they will provide our needs for today. We have no promise of tomorrow, and if tomorrow does come by His grace and mercy, He will still be there keeping all the promises He has made to His faithful children. I will trust in the Lord with all my heart to provide all I need to continue serving Him faithfully until He comes, or I die! (Exodus 16:1-2; 1 Corinthians 10:11; Romans 10:17; Matthew 6:31-34; 1 John 2:1-2; Romans 8:31-32; John 3:16; Philippians 4:11-13; Acts 17:25; 2 Peter 3:9; Proverbs 3:5)

Day Starter: “He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both are abomination to the Lord.” (Proverbs 17:15) This is a tremendous problem in the world today where evil is being called good, and good is being called evil. This is the work of the devil who is striving to stifle the word of God and the influence of godly people by calling both evil when we teach and practice the pure gospel of Christ.
The majority of the world seems to be caught up in justifying wickedness of all kinds and condemning those who are teaching the truth from God’s word as being hateful. In reality, we teach the truth because we love the Lord and the souls of all who are lost in sin. That is why we teach the truth identifying sin and calling people to repentance because we love their souls and desire their salvation as our Father in heaven desires all men to be saved. The Lord Jesus Christ commands the preachers in His body to preach the word without compromise as we reprove, rebuke and exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. We must never forget the power to convert the souls of man is in the word of God when it is taught and practiced in its purity and simplicity as the perfect law of liberty. May we all examine our lives and our teaching to make sure we are practicing and teaching the word of God, the truth, nothing more, nothing less. (Isaiah 5:20; James 1:25; Galatians 1:6-9; Luke 13:1-5 & 34-35; 1 Timothy 2:4-5; John 3:16; 2 Timothy 4:1-5; Psalms 19:7; James 1:25; Revelation 22:18-19)

Hi DSRs (Daily Scripture Readers): The wisdom God revealed through the pen of Solomon helps us to see how that wisdom applies to our relationship with God and every other aspect of our daily lives. By inspiration of the Holy Spirit, Solomon was able to give us wisdom in loving and obeying God as well as our relationship with our physical family, our brethren in the body of Christ and the people we encounter in our daily lives. As we also see in the life of Solomon, having this wisdom is one thing, using it in our lives is another. Here are the readings for this week:

June
14 – Songs of Solomon
15 – 1 Kings 11:1-40; Ecclesiastes 1 – 2
16 – Ecclesiastes 3 – 7
17 – Ecclesiastes 8 – 12; 1 Kings 11:41-43; 2 Chronicles 9:29-31
18 – 1 Kings 12; 2 Chronicles 10:1-11:17

“The Ancient Landmarks”, will be the title of our sermon this Sunday at the 5:00PM assembly to worship of the church of Christ meeting at 3500 Bernard St., Bakersfield, CA. The title of our sermon at the 10:30AM assembly to worship will be, “The Keys to the Kingdom of Heaven”. Everyone is invited to attend and investigate with us what the Bible says about the opening of the door to the church and the ancient landmarks in the Bible.

Day Starter: “The Lord will give strength unto His people; the Lord will bless His people with peace.” (Psalms 29:11) The people that choose to belong to the Lord are promised many blessings in this life and an eternal home in heaven. The Lord gave Him self for us so He could redeem us from our sins and purify unto Himself a people for His own possession. In order to be His people, each of us must choose to deny ourselves and live our lives in obedience to His will. His people are taught to present our lives a living sacrifice by choosing to not be conformed to this wicked world but live so we demonstrate the good, acceptable and perfect will of God in our daily lives. For all those who will choose to do so, our Lord has promised strength to overcome the trials of this life and peace with Him because our sins have been removed by the blood of Christ. To be His people that are pleasing to Him, we must have faith in all His promises relying on Him for strength and peace so that we can be content in all situations of life. I know Whom I have believed and fully trust in Him to keep all the promises He has made in this life and eternity! (Ephesians 1:3; Titus 2:11-15; Matthew 16:24-26; Romans 12:1-2; 1 Corinthians 10:13; 1 John 1:7-10; Hebrews 11:6; Philippians 4:11-13; 2 Timothy 1:12)

06/12/2026

Day Starter: “And He sat down, and called the twelve, and saith unto them, If any man desire to be first, the same shall be last of all, and servant of all.” (Mark 9:35) Jesus often taught His disciples that greatness in the kingdom of God does not come from having authority over others, but from being a servant to others. Through the pride of life the devil will tempt many to seek authority and superiority over others as a sign of greatness. Although this may be true in the eyes of the world, the opposite is true in the body of Christ, His church. In the Lord’s church, the elders, bishops, overseers, pastors (all being references to the same office) are commanded to not act as lord’s over the members of the congregation, but to serve the congregation by being an example to the members of the church. They, as all of the members of His body, can be that example by our own humble obedience to the word of God in being a servant to all. Jesus plainly teaches us, the way we serve Him is by serving our brethren in the church who are members of His body. I will strive to be the servant of all whom God provides me the opportunity to help by the blessings He bestows upon me. (1 John 2:15-17; 1 Peter 5:1-5; Acts 20:28; 1 Timothy 4:12; Matthew 25:37-40; Ephesians 4:14-16; Galatians 6:10; 2 Corinthians 9:8)

06/11/2026

Day Starter: “The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, the Lord hath made even both of them.” (Proverbs 20:12) The Lord has given us the ability to see and hear so He will judge us with regard to how we use our sight and hearing. By sight and hearing we place information in our hearts that will influence our speech and actions. Through the pen of Paul, the Lord taught His faithful disciples to fill our hearts with things that are pure and holy. That means we need to avoid seeing and hearing the evil works of the world as much as we possibly can by being careful about the places we frequent and the people we are around. Evil is ever present in this world in which we live and God does not want us to go live in a commune away from everyone else. He wants us to let our light shine by doing the good works He has identified in His word so we can be an example to others. I will strive to use my ears and eyes to fill my mind with the word of God as I continue to study and meditate on His word revealed in the Bible. Once I put it in my heart, I will also try to use it to guide me through this life to my eternal home in heaven. (Philippians 4:8; Romans 12:10; 2 Corinthians 6:14-18; 1 Corinthians 5:9-11; 1 Timothy 4:12; Matthew 7:132-14; James 1:25)
