Happy Feast of St Lucy! St Lucy is the patroness of light and against hemorrhages amd blindness. Her feast is incredibly special in our family. My niece, Amanda, has a son with a serious form of glaucoma and two of my sons have a disease that causes brain hemorrhages. To honor this feast, my niece and I try to make St Lucy bread together each year. Some years it happens and some years it doesn’t. Life can get crazy and we have to adapt. So sometimes Amanda makes the bread for me or we have used cinnamon rolls instead of making the bread from scratch, but however it happens we gather our family around the bread with lighted candles and ask St Lucy to intercede for our children. This has become one of our children’s favorite traditions and ours too! You can learn more about St Lucy here: https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/saint/st-lucy-83

“Know and understand well . . . that I am the ever virgin Holy Mary, Mother of the True God for whom we live . . . I am your merciful mother, to you, and to all the inhabitants on this land and all the rest who love me, invoke and confide in me; [I listen] to their lamentations, and remedy all their miseries, afflictions and sorrows . . . Hear me and understand well . . . that nothing should frighten or grieve you. Let not your heart be disturbed. Do not fear that sickness, nor any other sickness or anguish. Am I not here, who is your Mother? Are you not under my protection? Am I not your health? Are you not happily within my fold? What else do you wish?”

Today is the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, which in our house means churros and Mexican hot cocoa! When my sons were little, we enjoyed these treats along with picture books telling the story of Our Lady's appearance to Juan Diego. Now that they are older, we still love our treats, but we focus on the miracles of the apparition. How will your family celebrate? You can learn more here about the apparition and the miracle of the tilma here: https://www.wordonfire.org/resources/blog/st-juan-diegos-miraculous-proof/21809/

Just a reminder that December 6th is St. Nicholas' Feast Day and a great way to connect your children to the historical and religious roots of Santa Claus. Here is a link to a blogpost I wrote that shares how our family celebrates. I hope it inspires you to find the joy in this feast day too!

Here is a post from our family's celebration of the Feast of St. Nicholas back in 2008. It has become one of my boys' favorite days of the ...

Just a reminder as we begin this Advent season. It doesn't matter where you start your Advent journey. Jesus can meet you where you are and he can make a home in your heart, no matter how messy and untidy it may be. You just need to prepare Him room.

This is a great activity—not just for Thanksgiving, but for any day. And it’s free!
