TODAY'S WORD FROM THE LORD
1/25/26 - The Distant God
Psalm 10:1 (NKJV) - Why do You stand afar off, O Lord? Why do You hide in times of trouble?
Do you experience times when God seems very distant? Almost absent? Even the writer of this psalm felt that way. It is not a new feeling, but common, even for those who live in New Testament times, indwelt by the Holy Spirit as an ever-present help in time of need (Philippians 4:19, and many other verses). The absence of God is merely a feeling, not reality. God is not distant.
However, there are certainly times when trouble comes and God does not seem to "come to the rescue." He does not suddenly turn our persecutors and enemies away. He does not always foil their plots for our downfall. He does not cure our ills or heal our infirmities. These times give us the impression that God is either distant or non-existent.
Do not fall for these deceptive experiences, dear friends. God is not distant. He is doing something we do not understand. God is not done yet. His ways are higher than our ways; His thoughts higher than our thoughts (Isa 55:8-9). He is doing things far greater than our immediate relief of trouble. Rest assured, dear friends. If you are trusting in the Lord, His deliverance WILL come in due time. The greatest deliverance He gives is the deliverance from all evil - not in this world, but in the one to come! Our death is our great deliverance from this world, for through Christ, we have our salvation!
In the meantime, look to God for the strength to endure the trouble until His deliverance arrives. This is evidence that God is NOT distant, but present. Look to Him for peace that passes all understanding in the midst of your trouble (Phil 4:6-7). Place your whole life in His hands and you will find that underneath are the everlasting arms of God (Deu 33:27). He will sustain you until your enemy is completely vanquished.
Keep trusting the Lord for strength, courage, and faith. Trust Him in times of trouble and in times of ease. He is far more than merely a holy protector. For in times like this, He is revealing Himself to be so much more than a god we only call on in times of need.
