A CALL TO PRAY FOR BAKERSFIELD
Our hearts are broken over the senseless act of violence that took the life of a 17-year-old at Independence High School Friday night.
What should have been a night of community, school spirit, families, students, and football ended in tragedy. A young life was lost, a family is grieving, and countless students, parents, educators, and community members witnessed something they should have never had to experience.
Collective Church, I’m asking us to pray.
Pray for the family and loved ones of the young man whose life was taken. May the Lord surround them with His presence, comfort, and strength in the unimaginable days ahead.
Pray for every student, parent, teacher, coach, staff member, first responder, and person who witnessed what happened. Trauma does not simply disappear when the scene is cleared. Pray that God would bring healing, peace, and the right people around those who will carry the weight of what they saw and experienced.
Pray for Independence High School, Centennial High School, and every school in our city.** Pray for protection over our students and educators. Pray that our schools would be places where young people can learn, compete, gather, and grow without fear of violence.
And church, pray for Bakersfield.
There is a deeper condition in our city that laws, programs, policing, and politics alone cannot heal. We need the intervention of God. We need hearts transformed. We need families strengthened. We need anger replaced with peace, hatred replaced with love, hopelessness replaced with purpose, and darkness overcome by the light of Jesus.
We need God more than ever.
Scripture tells us, The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” — Psalm 34:18
So today, we stand with the brokenhearted. We mourn with those who mourn. And we lift our city before the Lord.
Jesus, have mercy on Bakersfield.
Protect our children.
Comfort this grieving family.
Heal those who are traumatized.
Bring peace to our schools.
Change hearts.
Restore families.
And let Your presence invade our city like never before
