Great News--Sad News!
Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. George,
We have some wonderful news that though it will temporary sadden all of us, will yet make us rejoice and be deeply happy for the family we all love dearly.
We are grateful to God for giving the Parish Council the inspiration, foresight and courage to step out in faith and hire a Pastoral Assistant. We have had Anthony filling that position for the past few months assisted by his lovely wife Anna Cornett and their delightful children. They have been assisting me with the services, youth programs and many other aspects of parish life.
We know that all Seminary graduates, may, at any time, be called up by the Metropolitan to fill the pressing needs within our Metropolis. We were hoping to have the Cornetts with us through 2020 and beyond, but a great need arose in the Metropolis and the Metropolitan has called the Cornetts to assist Rev. Fr. John Bakas at the St. Sophia Cathedral in Los Angeles. He has no Assistant Priest or Pastoral Assistant to help him, and desperately needs one at this time. The Cornetts will begin assisting Fr. John immediately, starting this Sunday! May God’s will be done. Anthony will most likely begin as a Pastoral Assistant and be put on the fast track for ordination.
The Metropolitan asked them to receive my blessing first (as their spiritual father), and they of course received it (I am informing the Metropolitan that I am giving under one condition, that they are able to return to Bakersfield when they are finished there:). Their help has been invaluable, and I/we all would have loved to keep them here. Should that have been God’s will, they too would have loved to stay (and had thought they would be here long term), but via the Metropolitan, God’s will has revealed that they are needed more there now. As Christians, we all desire God’s will to be done.
I have no doubt that, should it be His will, God will bring us someone else to fill that position soon. Let us send the Cornett's off with all of our love and blessings, and wish them Godspeed and all God's blessings on their whole family. May He bless the Cornett family in their new ministry.
Yours in Christ,
Fr. Joseph Chaffee and Parish Council of St. George
