Stewardship
The Holy Trinity Matthew 28:19–20 – “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.” Behold the threefold Name of God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We are baptized into this Name. We have been made a part of God’s family. Now, we are called to live in harmony with our new family, to be godly and live in God’s image. As God is loving, kind and generous, so are we all called to be.

This Sunday May 31st at 3pm in the Our Savior Fellowship Hall, we’re going to be gathering to discuss the movie “Faith Like Potatoes” and also chow down on some baked potatoes along with any other snacks and drinks people decide to bring.

Frank Rautenbach leads a strong cast as Angus Buchan, a Zambian farmer of Scottish heritage, who leaves his farm in the midst of political unrest and travels south with his family to start a better life in Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa. With nothing more than a caravan on a patch of land and help from his Zulu foreman, Simeon Bhengu, the Buchan family struggles to settle in a new country. Faced with ever-mounting challenges, hardships and personal turmoil, Angus quickly spirals down into a life consumed by anger, fear and destruction.

Angus' manic quest for material success is slowly transformed into a wild love for God and people, as he wrestles with faith, hope, natural disasters and tragic personal loss. Through an unlikely friendship with his Zulu farmhand, and God making Himself known through miraculous events, Angus discovers the key to healing and learning to accept others lies in his unwavering belief in Jesus Christ.

The Seed for a great miracle lies not in difficulty, but impossibility. - Angus Buchan

A group was touring the Capitol in Washington D.C. on Memorial Day. The guide posed the question, “What is the meaning of Memorial Day?”

They thought about it, and one said, “It’s the day that the pool opens.”

That’s sad. Studies have shown that only about half of Americans know the meaning of Memorial Day.

As we observe Memorial Day, many Americans gather with family, visit cemeteries, fly flags, and remember those who gave their lives in service to our country.

What many people do not know is that one of the earliest Memorial Day observances took place just weeks after the Civil War ended. On May 1, 1865, in Charleston, South Carolina, formerly enslaved African Americans gathered to honor Union soldiers who had died in a Confederate prison camp. They carefully reburied the dead, decorated the graves with flowers, sang hymns and patriotic songs, and held a procession of remembrance.

Over time, Memorial Day became a national day to honor all American service members who died in war. But from the beginning, it was rooted in gratitude, mourning, and the conviction that sacrifice should not be forgotten.

As Christians, we also remember that Scripture teaches us to “weep with those who weep” and to honor those who have gone before us. Today we give thanks for the courage and sacrifice of many, and we pray for peace among nations and comfort for all who mourn.
