Introducing KC3: A Beacon of Faith for Young Minds

In a world where secular education often overshadows spiritual growth, KC3—Kids Club Connecting to Christ—stands as a refreshing sanctuary for our youth. This visionary program, inspired by my wife Mary, is designed to offer a mid-week retreat from the secular pressures of modern life, providing young people with an enriching Bible-oriented environment.

The Heart of KC3
KC3 was born out of a desire to create a space where children can immerse themselves in Christian teachings and community. With activities ranging from singing and Bible lessons to quizzes, crafts, and fellowship, the program aims to foster both spiritual and personal growth. Its goal is clear: to nurture a deep connection with Christ through engaging and meaningful experiences.

Bridging Gaps and Building Bridges
One of KC3’s most significant impacts has been its ability to forge connections with families from diverse backgrounds. My wife and I serve as parent liaisons, engaging with parents and young couples who may come from denominational backgrounds or are unaffiliated with any church. Through these relationships, we strive to share the transformative message of Jesus Christ, extending our outreach beyond the confines of traditional church settings.

Origins and Necessity
The inception of KC3 was a response to a pressing need within our community. The congregation in Bad Axe, like many others, offered a mid-week Bible study, but its morning schedule, suited to an older demographic, left many young people unable to participate during the school year. Recognizing that Bad Axe is the sole congregation of the Lord’s church in Huron County, we saw a significant opportunity to address this gap. KC3 was established to meet that need and provide a dedicated space for youth to engage with their faith.

Embracing Growth and Overcoming Challenges
From its humble beginnings, KC3 has experienced remarkable growth, with attendance numbers rivaling those of larger congregations. This unexpected expansion has brought its own set of challenges. Our diverse age group, ranging from five-year-olds to early teens, necessitates the development of additional, age-appropriate curriculum to cater to varying levels of understanding and engagement. We are actively working on enhancing our programs to ensure that every child benefits from a tailored learning experience.

A Journey of Discovery and Learning
What began as a simple mid-week Bible study has evolved into a dynamic “academy” of Christian knowledge. Our curriculum has taken us through the rich history of Israel, starting with the story of Moses and the Exodus. From the dramatic events of the ten plagues and the parting of the Red Sea to the profound moment at Mt. Sinai where Moses received the law, our sessions have covered pivotal aspects of Biblical history.

We explore topics such as the Ark of the Covenant, the Tabernacle, and the priesthood of Aaron, moving through the wilderness wanderings to the transition of leadership from Moses to Joshua. Each session is complemented by a period of singing and engaging Bible-related questions, such as “Who was the first man?” or “Who wrote the first five books of the Bible?”

Our aim is not merely to engage in trivia but to delve deeply into God’s plan for mankind’s salvation, enriching our young participants with a comprehensive understanding of their faith.

Looking Forward
As we continue to navigate the growing pains and adapt to the needs of our expanding program, our commitment remains steadfast: to provide a nurturing environment where young minds can grow in their faith and knowledge. KC3 is more than just a program—it is a vibrant community that supports and inspires the next generation of believers.

We are excited about the future and the many opportunities it holds for further enriching the lives of our young participants. Through KC3, we are not only teaching Bible stories; we are building a foundation for a lifelong journey of faith and learning.

Disappointment With God:

By Jimmy Bagwell

Disappointment with God is a struggle that many Christians face. Life’s challenges and heartaches can sometimes lead us to question God’s timing, His presence, and His love. The story of Lazarus in John 11 provides a powerful lesson about trust, patience, and understanding God’s ways.

The Story of Lazarus
In John 11, we find the story of Lazarus, a close friend of Jesus, who fell seriously ill. His sisters, Mary and Martha, sent word to Jesus, hoping that He would come immediately and heal their brother. However, Jesus did not come right away. Instead, He delayed His journey for two more days. By the time He arrived, Lazarus had already been in the tomb for four days.

When Martha met Jesus, her words echoed a common sentiment: “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died” (John 11:21).

This statement reflects a profound disappointment and a deep sorrow, revealing a heart that struggles to understand why God did not act when expected.

A Bad Experience
We don’t always understand why things happen the way they do. Life is filled with unexpected turns, and often we find ourselves questioning God’s intentions. One example of such confusion can be seen in the story of the crippled man in John 9, where the disciples asked Jesus, “Who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” This question reflects a common misconception that suffering is always a direct result of personal sin.

Similarly, we might find ourselves saying, “Lord, if you were here, this would not have happened,” or “Lord, if you really loved me, this would not have happened.” These thoughts reveal our struggle to reconcile our circumstances with our faith. Sometimes, these challenging experiences can push us away from God, causing us to doubt His presence and His love.

Jeremiah 8:22 – Asking Questions
In moments of disappointment, it is natural to ask questions. Jeremiah 8:22 poses a poignant question: “Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there?” This verse captures the human tendency to seek answers and healing in times of distress. It is not wrong to ask questions; in fact, it is a part of our journey towards understanding and deeper faith.

However, it is important to recognize that our questions should lead us closer to God, not further away. We must seek His wisdom and comfort, even when we do not understand the reasons behind our suffering.

False Concepts and Misunderstandings
One common misconception is the belief that if God is with us, we will never suffer. Ecclesiastes 2 reminds us that life under the sun is full of both joys and sorrows. Jesus Himself said, “In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). Suffering is a part of the human experience, and it does not indicate a lack of God’s presence or love.

It’s Not God That Disappoints, It’s Our Expectations
The real issue often lies in our expectations. We expect God to act in certain ways and within our own limited experiences. When He doesn’t, we feel disappointed. However, God’s ways are higher than our ways, and His thoughts are higher than our thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9). He operates on His own divine timetable, which is always perfect, even when it doesn’t align with our expectations.

When faced with disappointment and doubt, we must remember that it is not God who disappoints us, but our own expectations. We are called to trust in His perfect wisdom and love, knowing that He works all things for the good of those who love Him (Romans 8:28).

In our moments of pain and confusion, let us draw closer to God, asking our questions with a heart that seeks His presence and comfort. Through faith, we can find peace in knowing that God’s timing is always right, and His love for us is unchanging.

Stay "salty" my friends. (Matthew 5:13)
