YOUR CHURCH MAY NEED A ‘REBOOT’
I have worked as a network engineer for over thirty years, and during that time. I saw about every conceivable problem that causes computers and networks to stop functioning properly.
There are several techniques I used to troubleshoot an issue, but keep in mind that I was working on an up and running system. So there was no need to change working parts before I evaluated each option carefully. Only after exhausting those processes, I would sit down with the managers and supervisors with my recommendations.
A simple ‘reboot.’ That’s right, a ‘reboot’ of all systems would not only repair the systems but would also update the registries and correct any errors in the programs.
Churches need to realize that a reboot is an opportunity to make corrections in the original programing to insure it is based on a Godly construct. Please note the instruction Paul gave to Titus, “For this reason I left you in Crete, that you would set in order what remains and appoint elders in every city as I directed you,” (Titus 1:5) Paul told Titus to set in order the things that are lacking. The phrase set in order was a medical term – they would use it for the setting of a broken or crooked limb. The churches needed order and qualified leadership.
Considering the realities mentioned in this article, we must move beyond resistance to change. Moving beyond resistance to change will allow the church to make the necessary correction to its programing and provide a successful ‘reboot.’ Churches that refuse to make these changes are destined to repeat the same error. Thom Rainer’s Anatomy of a Revived Church says, “It boils down to their desire to be stuck in their ways, stuck in their routines, stuck in their sameness, and stuck in their comfort. Almost any noticeable changes in the church evoke the ire of many,”
Remember, a spiritual reboot isn’t about superficial changes; it’s about seeking God’s presence, repentance, and renewed commitment to follow all commandments He has stipulated. Just as a computer needs a reboot to function optimally, a church periodically needs a fresh encounter with God to thrive and learn to obedient to His commandments.
Loving His Name,
