The Gospel of John – Part 15
A New Life Not a New System

In John 2, Jesus knew what was in man. In John 3, He speaks to Nicodemus and reveals the answer to what is in man.

Religion may improve outward appearances. Commitment may restrain certain behaviors. Discipline may change certain habits. But only the Spirit of God can give new life.

Jesus did not come merely to clean up the old man; He came to give man new life.

That is why Jesus did not say, “Try harder.” He said, “Ye must be born again.”

We continue our study through the Gospel of John with Part 14: “Not In A Building, But In A Person.”

In John 2:18–22, the religious leaders challenged Jesus and asked what sign He could give to prove His authority. Jesus pointed them forward to His death and resurrection:

“Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”

They thought He was speaking about the physical Temple, but He was speaking of His body.

The Temple pointed to access, but Christ provides access. Salvation is not found in a building, a system, a priesthood, or a ritual. Salvation is found in a Person — Jesus Christ.

Because of Him, we can call upon God anywhere. He is not too busy to hear us, and He is not too far away to hear our whispered prayers through tears and confusion.

Come as you are.
Sundays at 11 AM.

This morning we continued our study through the Gospel of John with Part 13: **Turning Over Tables**.

In John 2, Jesus enters the Temple and finds that the place meant to point people to sacrifice, worship, and the mercy of God had been turned into a marketplace. Man had cluttered up the message of the sacrifice with money, religion, pride, and self-effort.

Jesus turned over the tables because He was clearing the picture and bringing the focus back to the Lamb of God.

The Cross reminds us that salvation is not something we buy, earn, or prove ourselves worthy of. It is the gift of God through the finished work of Christ.

**Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us.**

Today we continued our study through The Gospel of John – Part 12: You Are Complete in Him.

In John 2, Jesus performs His first sign at the wedding in Cana. The wine had run out, the family was facing embarrassment, and the old waterpots of purification could not provide what was needed. But when Christ spoke, lack became abundance, shame was covered, and His glory was revealed.

This first sign reminds us that Jesus does not merely improve what man already has. He brings what man could never produce.

Religion can point to the need.
The law can reveal the need.
But Christ alone provides the fullness.

“And ye are complete in him…”
Colossians 2:10

The Gospel of John with Part 11: “God Knows and Understands.”

We looked at John 1:43–51 and the calling of Philip and Nathanael. Philip said, “Come and see,” but Nathanael discovered something even greater: before Philip ever called him, Jesus had already seen him.

That is a comfort to every believer. God sees us in the hidden places. He knows our private prayers, our burdens, our questions, and our struggles. And still, He calls us to Himself.

Jesus does not merely see where we are; He understands what we are going through and continues His work of shaping us into the image of Christ.

“Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee.”
John 1:48

Easter Sunday: Self-Sufficiency & The Cross

In this Easter message, we step through the Passover in Exodus and connect it to Christ, the Cross, and the resurrection. God did not just judge Egypt’s false gods: He showed that He alone is Lord. In the same way, the Cross tears down our false confidence in religion, self-righteousness, control, and self-sufficiency, so that we may find our sufficiency in Christ alone.

This message covers:

John the Baptist’s call to make straight the way of the Lord
the first Passover and the blood of the lamb
the meaning of hyssop as personal appropriation by faith
how God confronted the false gods of Egypt
the fullness of salvation in Christ
why Easter is more than a story of death and resurrection
how Christ alone restores us to God

Main thought:
God does not remove your false sufficiency to leave you empty; He removes it so that you may be filled with Christ.

Last Sunday in The Gospel of John – Part 9, we looked at Simon Peter from John 1:40–42.

When Jesus first met Simon, He already knew exactly who he was. He knew his fears, his impulses, his weakness, and his failures. Yet Jesus still gave him a new name and spoke to what grace would make him.

Simon was the man who listened and reacted.
Peter was the man Christ was shaping.
And in between, we see a life in progress.

Peter’s story reminds us that God does not save us and then leave us to figure ourselves out. The same grace that saves us is the grace that keeps working on us. Even after Peter failed, heaven still remembered him by name.

If you have ever felt like you are still struggling, still learning, still falling short, Peter’s life is a reminder that God is not finished with you.

Jesus knew exactly what Simon was, and still spoke to what Peter would become.

In this message, we look at the first meeting between Jesus and Simon Peter. Before Simon ever said a word, Jesus already knew him. He knew what Simon was li...

This past Sunday at Crouch Mesa Community Church, we continued in The Gospel of John – Part 8: Only Jesus from John 1:35–40.

John the Baptist pointed people to Jesus.
Andrew brought others to Jesus.
John wrote so others would believe in Jesus.

Different men, different roles, but one burden: Only Jesus.

So much of life tempts us to compare ourselves with others, chase recognition, or get distracted by religion, performance, and people. But the call of Christ is still personal, simple, and direct: “follow thou me.”

If you have been struggling with life, people, disappointment, or comparison, this message is a reminder that the answer is not found in religion, image, or success. The answer is found in Christ.

Only Jesus.

In this message from The Gospel of John – Part 8: Only Jesus, we look at John 1:35–40 and the transition from witness to discipleship. John the Baptist had d...

Last week at Crouch Mesa Community Church, we continued in our study through the Gospel of John with Part 7 – Behold The Lamb of God from John 1:29–34.

John the Baptist’s message was never really about John. It was about Christ.

He pointed people away from dead religion, away from self-righteousness, and away from trusting in outward forms, and he pointed them to Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the world.

That is still the message we need today.

Religion cannot remove sin. Ritual cannot remove sin. Good intentions cannot remove sin. Only Jesus can.

In this message we looked at: John’s call to prepare the way of the Lord, why Jesus was baptized, and what it means that Christ is the Lamb of God

Thank God, salvation is not a reset of our record so we can try harder. In Christ, God has dealt with sin fully through the cross.

If you were not able to be with us, I pray this message will be a help and a blessing to you.

This week in The Gospel of John – Part 6, we looked at The Character of a Witness from John 1:19–28.

John the Baptist lived in a world much like ours, a world full of pride, labels, offense, and the constant desire to be seen, praised, and elevated. Yet John was different. He knew who he was, and he knew who he was not. He was not the Christ. He was not the center. He was simply a voice sent to point people to Jesus.

When you truly see Christ, you begin to understand who He is and who you are not. At the feet of Jesus, all human pride is leveled.

True faith begins to grow when self is no longer on the throne. John’s greatness was not found in self-promotion, but in self-forgetfulness. He was content to be a voice because he knew he was not the Word.

He must increase, but I must decrease.

In The Gospel of John – Part 6: The Character of a Witness, we study John 1:19–28 and the humility of John the Baptist. In a world that constantly pushes us t...
