Some love stories deserve a little history. ❤️

Built in 1893, our Heritage Chapel has witnessed generations of faith, family, love, and life. With its historic character and timeless beauty, it’s a pretty incredible place to begin a new chapter of your own.

And we believe the chapel’s history should be a place where everyone gets to write their story.

At Azle Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), we celebrate every person’s sacred worth. That means that all couples including LGBTQ+ couples are not simply welcome here. Your love belongs here. Your wedding belongs here. Your story belongs here.

Rev. Russell Reflection -

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.” – Jeremiah 1:5

The book of Jeremiah was written in the late 7th century BC. The nation of Judah was facing political instability and impending judgment due to its idolatry and disobedience to God. Jeremiah was called to be a prophet to renew the covenant with God.

The word “knew” here is the Hebrew word “yada.” It’s more than awareness; it’s intimate, covenantal knowledge. The word “consecrated” could also be “sacred” which is the Hebrew word “Qadash” meaning “set apart.” This verse is emphasizing God’s intentional and relational involvement in Jeremiah’s life and mission.

Henri Nouwen says God says to us, “You are my Beloved, I want to be with you. Don’t go running around, don’t start to prove to everybody that you’re beloved. You are already beloved.”

Before you were born, God’s grace was for you.
Before you knew God existed, God’s grace was with you.
Before you knew yourself, you were known by God.
Before you knew what love is, God formed you and called you beloved.

Rev. Russell Reflection -

The show Ted Lasso had a powerful moment on its latest episode where the assistant coach, Alice, was overcome with emotion. When Ted entered the room and saw her crying, he didn’t try to console her or give her advice or ask her to stop. He sat next to her and repeated slow, deep breaths. This practice is called co-regulation.

We don’t need our friends or colleagues to give us unwarranted advice or try to pull us out of our mess. We often need someone to sit with us in our mess until we’re ready to move forward ourselves.

Every, single person is dealing with their own pain and problems. We are all on different, diverse journeys. How can we be better at respecting and affirming one another while also giving each other space to work out our own messy journeys?
