My Dad is in the middle of this picture (this picture looks like it was taken in the summer of 1962. Dad is holding my younger brother Tom. On my Dad’s left is my Mom, holding my brother John, ( now deceased). Standing to my Dad’s right with his daughter Colleen is Dad’s brother, Harry (!also deceased). My sister who could tan like no other, is Cecelia. The youngest girl, wearing light blue is my sister Mary. Katie, the one born next in line after me, is wearing the nurse costume. And then there was me, grimacing in the bright summer sun.
I praise God almost every day for the family I was born into.
Every member of my family had a substantial impact on me. .No doubt about it!

Countdown to Easter, 2025, T-18 and counting. Selections from Isaiah 53

‘By oppression and judgment He was taken away; and as for His generation, who considered that He was cut off from the land of the living for the transgression of my people to whom the stroke was due?’
Isaiah 53:8

This is saying, of all the people of Israel, did anyone realize that Jesus was paying the price for all the people?
John the Baptist, of all that generation, was one of the only ones who called it right. When he saw Jesus, he called him ‘the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.’
John the Baptist understood why Jesus came!
Jesus offered clues and asked questions of his disciples, all along the way to see if they were beginning to understand or if they were simply dull of understanding.
All the way through the last supper, he offered to his disciples an understanding of why he came. He shared clearly about what was going to happen and told them plainly about His body and His blood. It wasn’t until after he had risen from the dead that the light began to dawn on their spirits, and they came to an understanding.

We are so dull. We need the Holy Spirit to open up the eyes of our heart, and I believe that is why Paul prayed the way that he prayed

Many years after Jesus had risen from the dead, Paul wrote, “I pray that the eyes of your understanding might be enlightened!” He penned these words to the church at Ephesus. It is what they needed.
It is what Peter needed. It is what Paul needed. It is what we need. We need our eyes opened to what God is doing.
Who in our generation will have the understanding of what God is doing? Will there be anyone who has their spirit enlightened?
Who in our generation will dare seek the Lord and His face to understand what the Lord is saying for the sake of our churches, for the sake of our families and marriages?

Open my eyes Lord
I want to see Jesus
To reach out and touch Him
To say that I love Him

Open my ears, Lord
And help me to listen
Open my eyes Lord,
I want to see Jesus!

I consider it one of life’s greatest moments… that is, having the privilege to hand off the reins of the senior pastorate to Jeremy and Liz Kirkland. 10:30am, AGCC 1870 Azalea Glen Rd.

To our Church & School Families and the community of Glendale & Azalea with whom we have shared sports, broadcasting, coaching, a newspaper named the South County News, Tumbleweed Gap, Ambulance volunteering, School Board duties, teaching, and raising our kids together in the beauty of this Cow Creek Valley:

On this Transition Eve, Dan and I want each of you to know how thankful we are to have shared life with you. We have learned and laughed and cried together, taken courage from one another and trusted The Lord with each other. And the story of our lives continues in His hands.

With encouragement from our family, including Pastors Jeremy & Liz, we are planning take a few weeks away to invest in some “rest only” time for Dan as an avenue for strength to return to his body.
It will seem strange to not be responsible for Christmas services and celebrations, but it’s a new challenge we are willing to try!
We will be here finishing up most of the week at The AZALEA COUNTRY SCHOOL, but then will not see you until January. So have a very Merry Christmas from our home to yours. 🎄
We don’t have to wish for a Happy New Year - It is already filled with the promises of God.

All of our love to you,
Dan & Patty
