Where do you go for relief when life gets heavy?

Most of us reach for something. Things like shopping, golf, binging TV, scrolling, or substances. But in verses 25-30 of Matthew 11, Jesus promises to be the provider of real rest.

These verses tell us that Jesus’s teachings are easy (not as in the opposite of hard), meaning they are fitting and true. They require us to follow him as disciples and trust his righteousness, not attempt to find answers in ourselves or appease God with our own efforts. The heaviness of our sin debt has been paid for by Jesus Christ.

His promise of rest and relief reaches all the way down to our deepest need: the need every sinner has for a Savior.

This week, we are back on The Atrium Podcast with Pastors Neal & Chad.

We kick things off with a recap of Memorial Day Weekend and Neal elaborates on his sermon from last Sunday in the Gospel of Matthew.

From there we react to a clip of Matt Chandler talking about "checklist Christianity."

We wrap up by responding to the question: "when is it alright to cut people out of your life?"

Be sure to like, share, and tell your friends about another episode of The Atrium Podcast!

We are in verses 20–24 of Matthew 11 where we find Jesus preaching repentance as foundational to his Gospel. Repentance is good news because it is good for you. It is the authentic response of the sinner to a holy God. Pastor Neal connects this to 2 Timothy 2:20–21, which calls us to keep ourselves pure and ready in order to be used for every good work. And what is the key to keeping yourself pure and ready? Repentance.

Jesus also preaches "woe to you" to those who claim to be his followers, yet are missing what God could do in and through them if they would keep themselves pure, repentant, and obedient.

Would Jesus say "woe to you"?

After the disciples of John the Baptist return to their teacher, Jesus addresses the crowds to clarify the true nature of John. He is the one who paves the way for heaven to invade earth through Jesus Christ. The kingdom of heaven comes forcefully and with violent resistance, but vindication comes through Christ alone, the only approval we truly need.
