Just like your heart affects your words, your words affect what you believe in your heart.

Our verses today are 10-20 of Matthew 15. Jesus calls the crowd to Himself and turns the Pharisees’ concern upside down. What comes from the mouth proceeds from the heart, and that is what truly defiles us. We know we’re not in rhythm with the Spirit when what we say is out of rhythm with the Spirit.

So how do we change the rhythms of our heart? We can’t. But we can guard it, for everything we do flows from it. The first step to guarding your heart is guarding your words, because your words affect your heart.

So the question for you is: are your words in rhythm with the Spirit?

This week, we are back on The Atrium Podcast with Pastors Neal, Mark & Kevin. We kick things off by discussing Phase Two of the Grow Project. Jesus and the disciples had been thrown off course. They weren't headed for Gennesaret. They were headed for Capernaum. But when they landed, they found needy people right in front of them.

In Matthew verses 34-36 of Matthew 14, Jesus gives a masterclass on how to respond when things aren't going your way or when you're exhausted. He was probably exhausted too, but He was driven by compassion to see these people healed. Even when His plans were thrown off course, Jesus responded with compassion.

The people of Gennesaret carried their sick to Jesus, and all who touched Him were healed. At one time, we were the sick carried to Jesus. Now it's our turn to carry others.

So the question for you is: how do you respond when your plans are thrown off course?
