Farmington Valley American Muslim Center, Inc.

Farmington Valley American Muslim Center, Inc. Avon Mosque is devoted to the worship of God, service to community, and interfaith understanding. in January 2013 as a non-profit, religious organization. A lot!

We strive to be a secure, welcoming space where families grow in faith and proudly embrace both their American identity and Islamic heritage. We are a group of Muslims in the Farmington Valley area (Farmington, Avon, Canton and surrounding towns), CT, who have incorporated the Farmington Valley American Muslim Center, Inc. Our Center is dedicated to the worship of God, interfaith understanding and

dialogue, service to community and country, and creating a secure, nurturing environment where our community can congregate. Our objectives are to create a venue for Muslims in the Farmington Valley to receive Islamic education and fulfill their religious and spiritual obligations, promote understanding of Islam and other religious traditions through interfaith dialogue, and create a resource center for the community. So what’s in our logo? Our logo speaks volumes about who we are and what we are about. Like the flower in the logo, made brilliant by the various sizes and shades of its petals - coming together in complete synergy and harmony -, we are a vibrant community, strengthened by our diversity. We come together as one to form an integrated community, celebrating our American Muslim identity with the goal of fulfilling our mission: to nurture and inspire our youth, champion interfaith understanding and dialogue, and to serve the community. Green was the favorite color of our prophet, peace be upon him. Our scripture describes those in heaven as wearing garments of green silk. Also, the color green falls precisely in the middle of the visible light spectrum - between red and blue -, thus signifying the importance of balance, falling to neither extreme. Finally, the color green (chlorophyll) produced in the process of photosynthesis, is universally a source of all life. Without it, there would be no vegetation for humans or animals (to subsist on), and thus its very existence completes the cycle of life. A symbolic color in many ways.

Dear Beloved FVAMC Community - Asalamu Alaikum,

The tragic mass shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego has deeply saddened all of us. Three members of our broader ummah lost their lives in a place that should always be a sanctuary for worship, peace, and safety.

Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un — “Indeed, we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we return.”

Our hearts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and the entire San Diego Muslim community during this incredibly difficult time.

We also want to reassure our community that FVAMC continues to maintain comprehensive security measures that have long been in place. These include an extensive camera surveillance system, secured entry points, proper outdoor lighting, and a regular police presence on Fridays, along with dedicated traffic and security personnel on Sundays.

In light of this week’s tragedy, the Avon Police Department will increase its presence and visibility at and around FVAMC in the coming days. Detective Jason from the APD, who is regularly present at FVAMC on Fridays, will address the community after Jumu’ah prayers, answer questions, and listen to any concerns regarding security and safety.

We ask all community members to remain especially vigilant: please park only in designated areas, stay aware of your surroundings, and immediately report any suspicious activity to FVAMC leadership or law enforcement.

May Allah protect our mosques, our communities, and all places of worship, and may He keep us all safe. Ameen.

On behalf of the Board of Trustees,
Khamis

Wishing you all blessed first 10 days of Dhul-Hijah. Alhamdulliah, the first day of Dhul Hijah was calculated (Monday, May 18, 2026) according to both calculations by the Fiqh Council of North America (as we announced after Friday prayer) and Hajj Authorities in Saudi Arabia.

This means that the Day of Arafa will be Tuesday 5/26, followed by Eid-ul-Adha on Wednesday May 27.

FVAMC will be part of the United Eid Prayer with other mosques, held 9:30 am at the XL Center, downtown Hartford.

Imam Khizer will lead the Eid service, in Sha Allah.

This past Sunday, Imam Khizer, along with the FVAMC Academy students, conducted an educational Hajj simulation to help students better understand the journey and rituals of Hajj, one of the five pillars of Islam.
During the simulation, Imam Khizer carefully guided the students through each step of Hajj, beginning with entering the state of Ihram and making the intention for pilgrimage. Students learned about the significance of Tawaf around the Kaaba, the walk between Safa and Marwah (Sa’i), the stay in Mina, the Day of Arafah, spending the night in Muzdalifah, and the symbolic stoning of the pillars at Jamarat.

Imam Khizer also explained the spiritual importance behind every ritual, emphasizing themes of patience, unity, sacrifice, humility, and obedience to Allah. In addition to demonstrating what pilgrims do during Hajj, he discussed the proper etiquette, important do’s and don’ts, and common mistakes to avoid while performing the pilgrimage.

The session also included valuable lessons about the history of Hajj and the legacy of Prophet Ibrahim (AS), Hajra (AS), and Prophet Ismail (AS), helping students understand how these rituals connect Muslims around the world to a shared faith and history.

The hands-on simulation created an engaging and memorable learning experience for the students, allowing them to visualize the sacred journey of Hajj while strengthening their Islamic knowledge and appreciation for this important act of worship.
