Sitting in My Canoe
Ahhhhh…..I love the image in this post. A birchbark canoe, floating on still, mirror-like water, surrounded by God’s creation.
So peaceful, tranquil,…simple.
For the past few months, the Lord has had me “sitting in my canoe”. Sitting, not paddling. The water is calm. The air, cool and comfortable. I have been quiet, and listening.
Friend, close your eyes. What do you hear?… Leaves rustling, water lapping the sides of the vessel, birds chirping, a pileated hammering away? Yes, all of those things! Sit some more,… breathe in the damp air and with every exhale the noise of the world diminishes….
What do I hear in this sacred place? Daughter,… “I am He.”
“Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you, I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.” Isaiah 46:4
Pray with me—Today, I thank you Lord for our time in the canoe! Thank you for reminding me that You are the source of true Peace and Wisdom. You alone know and understand the intricate way I was made-my characteristics, gifts and heart’s desires. You know where I have been and where I am headed. You alone, Lord, are good. Even as my gray hairs accumulate, I will say, “Thank you Sustainer! Thank you Rescuer! Thank you for carrying me, Lord! I love you!”
Amen.
If you find this post encouraging, please share it with someone who could use time in a birchbark canoe.
And remember, YOU are loved!
