Ave Maria.

This breathtaking prayer reveals the soul of one of the Catholic Church's most passionate apostles of the Sacred Heart. St. John Eudes, a 17th century French priest, did not simply admire the Heart of Jesus from a distance โ€” he wanted it to replace his own. Every thought, every word, every action โ€” all of it surrendered completely to the Heart of his Saviour.

St. John Eudes dedicated his entire priesthood to spreading devotion to the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, and is recognized by the Church as the father of this devotion. He understood that a life truly transformed by God is not one that merely follows rules โ€” it is one where the very heartbeat of Christ becomes your own.

St. John Eudes, pray for us.

Ave Maria!

"Thy prayer is heard." โ€” the Voice from Heaven to St. Vitus at his death.

Today, June 15, we celebrate the Feast Day of Ss. Vitus, Modestus & Crescentia โ€” Martyrs.

Three unlikely companions. One unbreakable faith.

Vitus was born around 290 AD in Sicily, raised in the Christian faith by his nurse Crescentia and her husband Modestus โ€” despite his father being a pagan who fiercely opposed his son's belief. He was just a boy. But even as a child, he prayed incessantly, healed the sick, and converted many pagans to Christ. His faith was not something he grew into โ€” it was already burning from the start.

When his father and the Roman authorities came after him, Crescentia and Modestus helped the young Vitus escape. Together, the three fled โ€” but were eventually captured and brought before the Roman authorities during Diocletian's persecution. They were tortured, pressured to renounce Christ, and refused every single time.

He was tied to a torture rack โ€” but lightning destroyed the instruments of torture. Angels carried them away. And immersed in prayer, the three martyrs surrendered their souls to God peacefully.

They died together around the year 303. Vitus was honored as one of the Fourteen Holy Helpers โ€” saints especially invoked in times of need. A nervous disorder that causes uncontrolled movements was even named after him โ€” "St. Vitus' Dance" โ€” a testament to the miracles attributed to his intercession.

Ss. Vitus, Modestus & Crescentia, pray for us.

May the Reign of Mary come!

Ave Maria.

Today we celebrate St. Anthony de Padua, a priest and Doctor of the Church famous for his personal holiness, eloquent preaching, and stupendous miracles.

As impressive as St. Anthonyโ€™s life was, it is noteworthy how humble and docile he remained to the movements of the Holy Spirit.

St. Anthony was born just before the foundation of the Franciscan Order to a powerful European family.

He certainly had a deep faith from a young age, for when he was but fifteen years old he entered a monastery.

Soon after, St. Anthony heard of the virtue of the Franciscan martyrs and decided to take on the Franciscan habit and make way for Morocco.

It wasnโ€™t too long though before St. Anthony became seriously ill and had to set sail for Portugal.

While he was sailing, the ship went through a terrible storm and ended up on the shores of Sicily.

All of this chaos and uncertainty would have caused most people to become frustrated and uncertain, but this simple saint only wanted to serve the Lord and so he was content to quite literally go wherever divine Providence directed him.

Thus it was the Lordโ€™s plan that St. Anthony should be at Montepaolo when some Dominicans came to visit the Franciscans.

Neither Order had a sermon prepared due to a miscommunication, and so, in the spur of the moment St. Anthony was called upon.

This homily of St. Anthony was highly impressive and it not only caught the attention of everyone present but also of St. Francis of Assisi and the rest of the world.

From this point forward, St. Anthony was called upon to preach frequently, and so he did.

During this time he brought many people to repentance and was so well known for his faithful teaching and love that he was dubbed โ€œHammer of the Hereticsโ€.

St. Anthony was also known to have had many miracles wrought through him.

For example, there is the famous case where St. Anthony practiced a sermon for heretics who he feared would be too hard-hearted to listen by preaching to fish, assuming the fish would of course ignore his words.

But rather than the fish swimming every which way, they miraculously gathered around as St. Anthony spoke.

In another incident, St. Anthony was preaching while it was raining, but the entire assembly remained dry while everything else around them became soaked.

Moreover, centuries after the saint's death, when his body was exhumed, all of it was naturally corrupted except for his tongue which was still preserved due to the holy words which it emanated.

As famous as he was and is, and as many miracles and conversions took place through him, it is important to note St. Anthonyโ€™s humility and faith in Godโ€™s divine Providence.

So often the Lord works in ways that we do not see coming.

So while we suffer in a society that is rampant with heresy and sin as Our Lady of Fatima warned, and as we hopefully await the victory of her Immaculate Heart, let us place our trust in God and be open to how He is calling us to serve Him.

We can do this, we can discern Godโ€™s will for our lives through three simple means.

First, we must pray.

We must reflect on who God is and what He is doing in our lives by reflecting on the mysteries of the Rosary.

Second, we must repent, we cannot hold onto the things of this world or we will ignore Godโ€™s call even if we hear it.

Third, we must have faith in the Lord who has given us his own mother to be our mother and intercessor.

Ave Maria.

St. Gertrude the Great was a 13th century Benedictine nun from Germany who experienced one of the most intimate relationships with Jesus ever recorded in the history of the Church. She was not just a woman of prayer โ€” she was a woman personally invited into the very heart of God.

At the age of 25, she received a profound vision of Christ that transformed her entirely. From that moment, her life became a continuous conversation with Jesus โ€” deep, personal, and overflowing with love. She is one of the great mystics of the Church and one of the earliest promoters of devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, long before it became widely known.

Her words remind us that God does not desire a distant, formal relationship with us. He desires friendship โ€” intimate, real, and life-changing. The same Sacred Heart that opened itself to Gertrude is open to you today.
St. Gertrude the Great, pray for us.

May the Reign of Mary come!
