Anthony called the meeting to order.
Sheria emphasized the importance of updating contact information.
Motion made to leave the committee board members as is; Anthony Hudson as President and Treasurer, Sheria Johnson as Vice-President and Secretary.
Motion was seconded and vote was unanimous.
Balance of account, as of Feb 2024, was $ 4,288.52.
Dues for plots will remain at $ 4/plot for now.
Checks for dues are to be made out to Anthony Hudson. Memo line should read ‘Wiley Autry Cemetery plots’.
Biggest issue is loss of families paying dues.
Younger generation’s involvement is needed.
Bunce Cutting is still doing the grass cutting and now will take over the spraying for fire ants. The spraying will take place twice a year.
Susie asked about w**d spraying.
It was suggest speaking with Wanda Barefoot about taking over as the representative for the Barefoot plots. Anthony will speak with Wanda Barefoot or Lydia Ruth.
Susie mentioned that there have been some changes to the N.C. Burial Laws.
Susie asked about requiring vaults for burials in the cemetery. Sheria suggest leaving that decision up to the individual families due to the cost of vaults. NC Burial Law does not require a vault.
Motion was made to discuss requiring or leaving it up to the families. Becky seconded the motion.
Discussion was held and while most seemed to lean toward leaving it up to the individuals, a couple wanted it required. CJ pointed out that if a vault was required it could turn away some of the younger generations. There was some confusion on what the exact motion was, so therefore the vote was tabled until next meeting. In the mean time, Anthony and Sheria will get more information dealing with the pros/cons of burial vaults.
Next meeting is scheduled for:
Saturday, March 15, 2025 at 10:00 a.m.
Larwance Williams allowed us to use his building for the 2024 meeting and if needed in the future it will be used as a back-up meeting location. Otherwise the annual meeting will be held at the old fellowship hall at Mt. Carmel Church of God.
