We provide a range of services. We give, We help, We counsel, We disciple, We follow Christ! How The Carpenter's Hands came about is a long journey and process the Lord took us through. Like most Christians, we have always felt a need to serve and help others. We would give and help when it wasn't too inconvenient. But God! We began to feel that it was time do more. We didn't know how or what we w
ere supposed to do. Then one day the Lord showed us Mathew 25. All the times we had read it or heard a message on it, we thought we knew it. But this time the words were jumping off the page. It was real to us. So that began to push us into a sold-out mission to help "the least of these". We started to be more intentional about who, how, and when we help others. Still, we had no idea what God was doing. All we knew is that we wanted to whatever we could to show the love of Christ to everyone we could. Then out of nowhere the idea of an actual organization came up. Then the name, then the desire to see it come to be. It was all coming together. But what really set it off was two instances back to back. First, we heard a story from a missionary. She was talking about how they built a house for a lady in another country, then built her a store on the side of the house for the whole village. She said "it was great to build her a house. It was needed. But to be able to build her a store for the whole village was creating sustainability. We were able to build her a way to provide for her family." And that word "sustainability" stood out to all of us. The second which followed shortly after we began to pray what the Lord was saying about that, was hurricane Harvey. One of us was able to get down there to help. He went to Houston then Beaumont. He came back and told us "it wasn't just helping people out of their flooded houses that was needed. It would be a complete overhaul. People would need a place to stay, away to get around They would need to be able to clean the streets, fix their homes. They would even need to know how to budget for the things insurance wouldn't cover. Not including the counseling they would need to get over some of the horrors of that whole ordeal." "Yes they need help, and lots of it," he said. "But most of all they will need to be able to help themselves when we are not here. They would need sustainability." That is when we knew God was really telling us to get moving on all of this. "but how or what are we going to do" We asked Him. That verse from Ex. 4:2 "what is in your hand" stood out. So we got together some handymen, some designers, some stay at home moms, some that have worked on cars and so much more. From then on we have used what we knew and some of what we didn't to help and reach as many as we could. This is not a place for people to get free work or services when they have the need to do so. It is a place to help those that can not help themselves. Whether it is to help fix a broken fence, change the oil in the car, help out when a loved one passes, or even just to be there for someone. We do all of that and more, but we have the desire to teach and lead people to be in a place to do that for themselves and others too. Yes, we will help someone pay their bills when they are hurting. But what if we helped them get financially stable and on a budgeting plan so it won't happen again. Yes, we will help someone with their car. But what if we taught them how to do it again by themselves. And of course we will give to the poor. But again what would happen if we gave them the tools to get a good job and a place to stay. All of that is giving as is our heart to see Mat. 25 come to life. But more then that is helping people have sustainability in their lives so they can then help others as well. This is what our mission, goal, and heart is. This is what God has been birthing in all of us. So please let us know how we can serve you or someone you know.
