The Agape Baptist Church was established in 1993 by a group of believers seeking to do God’s Will. Why the name: Agape? The greatest love story ever told is the story of the love of God for all his creation. A love that was so powerful and consuming that the Apostle John documents: “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but That the world through Him might be saved” (John 3:16-17). John again reminds us that “...God Is Love” (1John4:8). Our redemption, through the shed blood of Jesus Christ, was made possible because of love. For, in reality, it was love and not the nails that kept Jesus on the cross until he died in payment for our sins. How important is love? It is all important! In fact, we are told by the Apostle Paul, in his letter to the early church at Corinth, “Now abideth faith, hope, love, these three, but the greatest of these is love” (I Cor. 13-13). Agape is the characteristic work of Christianity. It is used in the New Testament to describe the attitude of God toward: his Son (John 17:26); the human race, generally (John 3:16, Roman 5:8); and those who believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, particularly (John 14:21). It is also used to convey God’s will to his children concerning their attitude toward each other (John 13:34) and toward all men (I Thess. 3:12; I Cor. 16:14 and II Peter 1:7). It further expresses the essential nature of God (I John 4:8). Perhaps the best illustration of the various types of love is found in the Bible in conjunction with the conversation that Jesus had with Peter during one of our Lord’s post resurrection appearances before his disciples as cited in John 21:15-18. Jesus asked Peter the same question three times: “Do you love me?” After the third question, Peter then answers with an extended answer of Agape-no strings attached - no conditions - fully unbridled love! Using this passage of scripture as our perpetual reminder of the type of love that we, individually as believers in Christ Jesus as our personal savior, and collectively, as a body of believers joining to form a visible church, we have chosen to call ourselves - AGAPE BAPTIST CHURCH. Therefore, we strive to be: “A Church where our Lord Jesus Christ is magnified and the love He exhibited is exemplified through Praying, Worshiping, Studying, Caring, Sharing and Serving.”
OUR THEME SONG: “If Everybody Loved Jesus, What a Wonderful World This Would Be.”
