O Almighty God, who brings good out of evil and turns even the wrath of your children towards your promised peace: Hear our prayers this day as we remember those of many nations and differing faiths whose lives were cut short by the fierce flames of anger and hatred. Hasten the time when the menace of war shall be removed. Cleanse both us and those perceived to be our enemies of all hatred and distrust. Pour out the spirit of peace on all the rulers of our world that we may be brought through strife to the lasting peace of the kingdom of your Son; Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

From The Episcopal Diocese of New York.

We remember. We honor. We pray. 🤍

On September 11, we remember those we lost, honor those who served, and hold in prayer all those affected.

May remembrance continue to lead us toward compassion, unity, and peace. 🕊️

There's a limestone church downtown that's older than most of the buildings around it by more than a century. ⛪ St. David's Episcopal Church at 7th and San Jacinto had its cornerstone laid in 1853, and its first service was held the following year, making it the first stone masonry religious structure ever built in Austin. It was designed by Edward Fontaine, who also served as its rector and happened to be a great-grandson of Patrick Henry.

The congregation that founded it included officials from the Republic of Texas government, and the building has been individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1978. It's still an active parish today, and in 2018 it went through a multi-phase structural rehabilitation to stabilize damage from more than a century and a half of additions and street regrading around it. Walk past it now and it's easy to miss how much of Austin's earliest history is packed into that one corner.

Downtown Austin changes so fast that it's easy to forget how much is actually still standing from before the city was even fully a city. 🕯️ Do you know the story behind any other downtown buildings that have quietly survived this long?
