This week and through November, our Special Offering is Pickle Elementary. In previous years, Trinity had a long tradition of donating to Ridgetop Elementary. However, at the end of the last school year Ridgetop tragically closed down and the kids who had grown up attending the school got transferred to Pickle. These kids lost a piece of their stability, during a period of time that is already overwhelming for so many of us.

We support families identified by the school counselor as having the greatest need by providing gift cards for them to celebrate in whatever manner they choose. Our special offerings in November will go toward support for these families for the winter holidays.

Día de los Mu***os, or Day of the Dead, is a Latinx, Latinx American tradition that honors and remembers loved ones who have passed. It brings families and communities together through ofrendas, favorite foods, music, art, storytelling, and joyful gatherings.

Come join us to set up the ofrenda on Friday, Oct. 30th from 11:30 - 1:00pm in the sanctuary. Ofrendas are altars created to welcome and honor loved ones who have passed. They often include photographs, candles, marigolds, papel picado, favorite foods, personal belongings, and other meaningful items connected to the people being remembered. Every ofrenda tells a different story.

This week’s Special Offering is Hope Food Pantry. Hope Food Pantry Austin is a partner agency that collaborates with community partners to help alleviate hunger in the Austin community through weekly distribution of food, serving AISD families in crisis, Food Rescue program, and Children’s library program.

At times, we may feel taken aback by the calling of Love. It can feel so radical – to profess and believe that we each have gifts to bring. That we are all essential. That there is enough grace and communion along the way.

As we share our gifts in care of our congregation and our neighbors, may these offerings be blessed. May we also reflect on all God calls us to be, as individuals and as a community.

If you would like to share your financial gifts for Trinity’s budgeted expenses or for the Special Offering, you may donate at the link attached to this post or during the Sunday Celebration. Today’s Special Offering is UCC Neighbors in Need.

One-third of the offering supports Council for American Indian Ministry (CAIM). Two-thirds are used by Justice and Witness Ministries to provide grants to UCC churches and organizations as well as supporting a variety of justice initiatives, advocacy efforts, and direct service project.
