Friends Meeting of Austin

Friends Meeting of Austin The Friends Meeting of Austin, Texas invites you to join us for Quaker meeting for worship (MFW) on S Blvd. in East Austin, every Sunday at 11:00 am.
(5)

Meeting for worship occurs at 3701 East Martin Luther King Jr. Everyone is welcome to join us in worship. Our meeting practices the unprogrammed form of Quaker worship without a formal pastor or liturgy. Those gathered in the silence may rise to give ministry as they are led by the Spirit. If you have never experienced this form of Quaker worship before and want to know more we will be happy to ex

plain what to expect. Our meeting is part of South Central Yearly Meeting (SCYM), a gathering of Friends meetings in Texas, Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Louisiana. The meeting was founded in 1948. Many people first came to know the Friends Meeting of Austin at its first home on Washington Square in central Austin, a beautiful old brick building which in turn became home to the Austin Zen Center in 2001. We held worship at the Hancock Recreation Center until, in 2007 we moved into our current meeting house on East Martin Luther King Jr. in East Austin in a church building that was formerly home to St. James Episcopal Church. Our beliefs and practices are more fully explained in our Faith and Practice.
