Run for Your Life!!!
There is an impending danger looming: the Lord shall soon destroy the earth and its content: the cars, money, human beings and all there in. The fires of S***m and Gomorrah is a replica story of what will happen on earth.
In Genesis 19:17 the bible reads:
"When they were safely out of the city, one of the angels ordered, “Run for your lives! And don’t look back or stop anywhere in the valley! Escape to the mountains, or you will be swept away!”"
The angels were ready to destroy the city. But the righteousness of God is such that He preserves the godly. Borrowing Abimelech's question to God:"Lord, will you destroy an innocent nation?"( Genesis 20:4b). God does not destroy the innocent. Abraham also asked God in Genesis 18:23b "will you sweep away the righteous with the wicked?"
In our reading, we see two sure characteristics of God:
1. He punishes sin and evil. God was going to destroy S***m and Gomorrsh because of its sins.Genesis 19:24 says, "then the Lord rained down burning sulfur on S***m and Gomorrah from heaven". This is not an isolated incident, in the nearest future, the Lord is going to destroy the earth. In Revelations 20:10 we are told: "and the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever". There is coming on earth a torment such as man or the world has never seen before. This pain and anguish shall last forever. It is a scary thing to think of but it shall surely happen.
2. He provides escape for the righteous and the sinner. The angels told the righteous Lot and his family to flee from the city to escape the fire( the sulfur or brimstone to destroy the city of Gomorrah). In the same manner, God is sounding the clarion call to you through this message to escape the danger coming to the world. John the baptist asked the Pharisees, "Who warned you to flee and escape from the wrath and indignation of God against disobedience that is coming?" You are being warned to run from this anger of God coming too.
Finally, Lot and the family run to the mountain but we are asked to run into the saving hands of Christ. Accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. He is the only one who will save you from the danger coming. Hebrews 6:18b says "we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged." This means that as we flee to Christ to escape the danger, we also embrace THE HOPE SET BEFORE US. Hope of eternal bliss with our master Jesus Christ. Start running today, for today is a day of salvation. For "how shall we escape if we ignore so great a salvation? ". My brother run for you life
