بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ
*الـتَّـعَـصُّـبُ لِـلـشَّـيْـخِ الْـوَاحِـدِ يَـحْـرِمُ طَـالِـبَ الْـعِـلْـمِ مِـنَ الْإِنْـصَـافِ*
*Fanaticism for a Single Sheikh Deprives the Seeker of Knowledge of Objectivity*
Ghassan bin Yusuf al-Barqawi said:
"And I say to all my children, the seekers of Islamic knowledge:
I am not a scholar, nor am I even a student of knowledge. My store of knowledge is meager, undeserving of blind following (taqleed), let alone fanaticism!
I simply adopt the opinions of some of the major Muslim scholars on any given issue. I do not invent new opinions, nor do I adopt a ruling that has not been voiced by an eminent, accepted, and authoritative scholar, such as:
Abu Hanifah
Malik
Al-Shafi'i
Ahmad ibn Hanbal
Ibn Taymiyyah
Ibn al-Qayyim
*And from among our contemporaries* :
Ibn Baz
Ibn Uthaymeen
Al-Wadi'i, and *others* .
What is most beloved to my heart is for the student to take knowledge directly from these great scholars and to cast my own opinion aside. *I do not authorize anyone to follow me blindly, nor to be fanatical toward me or my views* .
I disassociate myself before Allah from anyone who follows me blindly, and I disassociate myself even more severely from anyone who develops a fanatical attachment to me.
I ask everyone who receives these words of mine to spread them among the people, and I will be immensely grateful to them, praying for their well-being and that they are granted Al-Firdaws al-A'la (the highest level of Paradise).

قَـالَ غَـسَّـانُ بْـنُ يُـوسُـفَ الْـبَـرْقَـاوِيُّ:
«وَأَنَـا أَقُـولُ لِـكُـلِّ أَبْـنَـائِـي طَـلَـبَـةِ الْـعِـلْـمِ الـشَّـرْعِـيِّ:
أَنَـا لَـسْـتُ بِـعَـالِـمٍ وَلَا حَـتَّى طَـالِـبِ عِـلْـمٍ.
أَنَـا صَـاحِـبُ بِـضَـاعَـةٍ قَـلِـيلَـةٍ لَا تَـسْـتَـحِـقُّ تَـقْـلِـيدًا، نَـاهِـيـكَ عَـنِ الـتَّـعَـصُّـبِ!
وَأَنَـا أَقُـولُ بِـقَـوْلِ بَـعْـضِ كِـبَـارِ عُـلَـمَـاءِ الْـمُـسْـلِـمِـيـنَ فِي الْـمَـسْـأَلَـةِ، وَلَا نَـخْـتَـرِعُ قَـوْلًا، وَلَا نَـتَـبَـنَّى حُـكْـمًا لَـمْ يَـقُـلْ بِـهِ عَـالِـمٌ مَـشْـهُـورٌ مَـقْـبُـولٌ مُـعْـتَـمَـدٌ، مِـنْ أَمْـثَـالِ:
أَبِي حَـنِـيفَـةَ،
وَمَـالِـكٍ،
وَالـشَّـافِـعِـيِّ،
وَأَحْـمَـدَ بْـنِ حَـنْـبَـلٍ،
وَابْـنِ تَـيْـمِـيَّـةَ،
وَابْـنِ الْـقَـيِّـمِ.
وَمِـنْ مُـعَـاصِـرِيـنَـا:
ابْـنِ بَـازٍ،
وَابْـنِ عُـثَـيْـمِـيـنَ،
وَالْـوَادِعِـيِّ، وَغَـيْـرِهِـمْ.
وَأَحَـبُّ إِلَى قَـلْـبِـي لِـلطَّـالِـبِ أَنْ يَـأْخُـذَ الْـعِـلْـمَ مِـنْ هَـؤُلَاءِ الْكِـبَـارِ مُـبَـاشَـرَةً، وَيَـطْـرَحَ رَأْيِـي جَـانِـبًا.
وَلَا أُجِـيـزُ لِأَحَـدٍ تَـقْـلِـيدِي وَلَا الـتَّـعَـصُّـبَ لِي، وَلَا لِـرَأْيِـي.
وَأَنَـا أَبْـرَأُ إِلَى الـلَّـهِ مِـنْ كُـلِّ مَـنْ قَـلَّـدَنِـي، وَأَنَـا أَشَـدُّ بَـرَاءَةً مِـمَّـنْ تَـعَـصَّـبَ لِي.
وَأَطْـلُـبُ مِـنْ كُـلِّ مَـنْ وَصَـلَـهُ كَـلَامِـي هَـذَا أَنْ يَـنْـشُـرَهُ بَـيْـنَ الـنَّـاسِ، وَأَكُـونُ لَـهُ مِـنَ الـشَّـاكِـرِيـنَ الـدَّاعِـيـنَ بِـالْـخَـيْـرِ وَالْـفِـرْدَوْسِ الْأَعْـلَى.
مُـحِـبُّـكُـمُ الـشَّـاكِـرُ صُـحْـبَـتَـكُمْ وَجَـمِـيـلَـكُمْ: أَبُـو الْـبَـرَاءِ غَـسَّـانُ بْـنُ يُـوسُـفَ الْـبَـرْقَـاوِيُّ».
