Last weekend was the Metropolitan Chicago Synod, ELCA Synod Assembly at the Q Center in St. Charles! Thank you Michelle Leedham, Jeanne and Mike Flynn and Pastor Krista for representing St. Mark's! They are pictured here with Pastor Nixon Mwitula of Tumaini Swahili Chapel Aurora in Chicago USA which meets at St. Mark's every Second Sunday afternoon! Many St. Mark's folks will also recognized Bishop Wayne Miller with his story box! This was during his Bishop's report. Thank you Bishop Miller for serving as our Interim Bishop for the last year! One of the biggest pieces of work the Assembly was tasked with was electing a new bishop. Blessings to our Bishop Elect Rev. Erik Christensen! Pastor Christensen is the first out gay bishop in the Metro Chicago Synod!🏳️‍🌈 He will begin serving in September. Stay tuned for more from Synod Assembly in the coming weeks!

Weather permitting, we’ll gather outdoors in the playground area for a vibrant and uplifting Lutheran Contemporary Worship experience. There’s nothing quite like worshiping surrounded by God’s creation—fresh air, open sky, and a joyful community.

Bring your lawn chair, dress for the beauty (and unpredictability!) of nature, and come ready to sing, reflect, and connect.

Let’s make this a Sunday to remember—full of music, spirit, and fellowship. We can’t wait to worship with you!

"God is closer to us than our own breath." Thomas Keating, the Christian (Trappist) Monk, was known to say as he taught Centering Prayer. As we celebrate the Feast of Pentecost, we do so in the context of the Gospel of John, acknowledging God's presence and action in our lives, closer to us than our own breath, bestowed in an embrace and a kiss. We consider how this inspires us to share God's abundant love.

Today, members of St. Mark’s, in coordination with the Northern Illinois Food Bank, set up a mobile food pantry for our neighbors at the LSSI low-income senior housing center just down the road from us. There was so much food available, and at a time when grocery prices are so high, these seniors were incredibly grateful. It was a blessing for our volunteers to come together to help make life a little easier for others. (In order to unload hundreds of melons, our volunteers used the bucket brigade method!) 😄

"Christ is Risen! (Again!)"

Forty is a significant number in the Bible, and the church has kept Ascension on the fortieth day of Easter. That Christ ascended to God the Father to reign over life and death is another way to say that Christ rose from the dead. Thus the Ascension is another Easter Day. Come and see!
