Tomorrow I will be preaching from Matthew, chapter 3, verses 1-12. In this scripture John the Baptist came preparing the way for Christ's arrival. John the Baptist declared to all who would listen, "repent, for the kingdom of heaven or God has come near." John the Baptist also spoke from Isaiah, chapter 40, verse 3. "A voice of one calling in the wilderness, Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for Him." Let me address one word today and that is the word "repent." It means that a person recognizes the bad things in their life that offend God and they come to recognize their need for Jesus. Yes, it is a Christian word that expresses the reality that a person turns from their old way of life. A person begins to recognize that their life has no hope without Jesus. In Jesus we find forgiveness from our sin and renewed purpose of living for Him. Some of you reading this are spiritually lost. You have never contemplated the fact that one day you are going to die. Now is the moment to embrace Jesus as your Lord and Savior and to begin following Him. When Jesus becomes the Lord of your life you now have eternal life from that moment on. Whether living or dying, you know in whose presence you constantly stand. I wish for you to know the kind of eternal peace that can fill your life regardless of your circumstances. Jesus defeated death on a cross 2,000 years ago and he paid for your sin and mine. John the Baptist came preparing the way so that people would be prepared when Jesus arrived. Now is the moment to embrace salvation through Jesus Christ. The next time Jesus returns that invitation will no longer be available. Come join us for worship at First Baptist Aurora beginning at 10:15 a.m. We will dig deeper into the scripture in Matthew and I will help share the importance of the moment. Embrace salvation while it can be found. Pastor Bill
