Good morning, As I sit here this morning I have a lot of things running through my mind. So would like to address a few things, as well as hopefully squash some rumors.
I am asking for no negativity. Please just read and try to understand where I am coming from.
With in the last two days, I have heard so many different stories from individuals, who are simply struggling.
We monitored our free food tables at work and in 2 days 100 bags of food went out to those in need of it. This is with limits set in place and no hoarding. Now more than ever, people who you would never think would be in need of help, right now are....
Times are tight for everyone right now.
Work hours are being cut. Utilities, gas, and grocery prices are constantly increasing.
Some are having to decide, whether to pay insurance or the electric but because paying both isn't in the budget. When you have to make a choice between food for your family or your own medications, it is a tough choice to have to make.
Our numbers with the Convoy of hope giveaways vary from when we first started at 120 families to now we are doing between 150-200 every month. This is on top of our normal assistance.
We ask for a small donation at the time of the giveaway. Even as a non profit everything is something to help us cover our cost for the bags we have to purchase, building maintenance/utilities etc.
A few give generously, and for that we are very grateful. Unfortunately, a lot do not. But imagine if every car that came through that line gave even just $1. It would greatly increase our ability to continue to help the surrounding communities as we have for the last nearly 60 years.
This is the part where I am just going to be blunt and to the point.
Some of you may not know this, but we are in no way, shape or form, funded by the state or grants. In order to be able to do everything we do here we need financial help and donations from organizations and from the public.
Right now we have three churches that give us a regular monthly contribution that can be counted on every month and 2 others who help as they can.
We have one church that is faithful in bringing in food weekly for the clients and one gentleman who goes on his own to go get produce every Tuesday so we have something to give to those in need. God Bless Him!!!
Convoy of Hope who brings us food monthly (that is where 98% of our free table stuff comes from).
Private citizens bring in what we have left.
Anytime these issues are brought up people jump on the bandwagon of........ "Everything you get is free and you charge for it. you should be bringing in a lot of money there.." Seems right? After all, One man's trash is another mans treasure, right? Sadly this isn't always true.
And the reality is, it's not even close. You have to understand every single item in our store is available to someone who is in need. THAT is what we do here.
Yes many of our items are priced and put out on the floor but, most are given free of charge if needed.
A great person once said "Our greatest purpose, is our service to others." So who are we to turn away people who are in need, just because they are facing the same exact money struggle, that we are? Or maybe just ask that age old question, "What would JESUS do?" I'll tell you. He would LOVE FIRST. And that what we do.
And while we do as much as we possibly can, we also have utilities, and a rather large trash bill, to pay.
We are forever grateful for the help we are given, as well as the opportunity to continue to help others.
But at the rate the current situation is going, we don't know how long we will have the ability.
All we ask is to help us, help others. Everything helps.
Thank you and GOD BLESS.
Kandie
