September 4.

*Psalm 64.*
- V.7. The people that are plotting against God’s people don’t know that God has the back of His children. They are only wasting their time.

- V.10. When God steps into the fight between his children and their enemies, two sounds will be heard in the two camps - Sound of joy in the camp of God’s children and sound of anguish and defeat in the enemies camp.

**Congregational Bible study. **
September 3.

*Psalm 63.*
- V.1-2. When a man who is on the run for his life and who found himself in the wilderness populated with wild animals and reptiles speaks with so much faith in God’s ability and willingness to deliver him, he must have a catalogue of testimonies of God’s faithfulness to draw strength from.

- He has seen God perform wonders before and has enjoyed the glory of God.

- V.2. The proof of the truth of any man’s ability is in what he has accomplished before. David has seen the power of God at work when God helped him to destroy bears and lions and Goliath before. He knew that though on the run, God was on his side.

- V.8. Clinging to God as our lifeline guarantees our victory.

July 27.

*Psalm 62.*
- V.1 & 5. When someone who God had anointed to be the King but had to wait almost 20 years before he ascended the throne tells us to “wait quietly before God”, it is in our interest to pay attention to his words.

- David was anointed king by Prophet Samuel at 15. After his initial anointing, David spent years as a shepherd, served in King Saul’s court, and later lived as a fugitive.

- David became king over Judah at 30 (15 years of waiting) and became king over the entire nation of Israel 71/2 years later.

- V.3-4. From the beginning of his story in the Bible, David suffered persecution from his family, his king, and many other enemies but his faith was 100% in the Lord(V.7-8).

- V.10b. This is a great advice for us all. When people are in need of help from God, they flood the church but when God answers them, they vanish. They make the blessings they receive the center of their lives.

- V.11. When we know that all power belong to God, we will depend on Him for power to succeed in life.
- We can ask from Him the power to get wealth (Exodus 8:18), power to live holy (Galatians 5:15), power to heal the sick (Matthew 10:8), power to preach the gospel and witness for Christ (Acts 1:8) etc.

August 31.

*Psalm 61.*
- Scholars say that this psalm reflected the heartache and trauma that David faced when his son Absalom wanted to kill him and take over the throne.

- The overwhelming feeling of frustration and despair that come to people when their loved ones turn against them is indescribable. How could a responsible father want his rebellious children dead?

- David was on the run for his life but still wished his son to live.

- V.2-4. Though David was no longer in Jerusalem and therefore couldn’t go to the physical temple there, he knew that the presence of God was with him. In a sense, the sanctuary of God was in His abiding presence.

- David knew that Emmanuel is the name of the Lord and that our God is omnipresent so he was confident that He could hear his cry and come to his rescue.

- V.5 & 8. Vows are powerful ways to connect with God because they are markers and point of contact to our blessings.
- ⁠But we should not make vows carelessly but thoughtfully because God hates it when we make promises and break them (See Ecclesiastes 5:4-5).

**Congregational Bible study. **
August 30.

*Psalm 60.*
- This was a moment of distress and battle fatigue occasioned by the attacks that Israel suffered from many enemy nations that swooped on them from all sides.

- As they focused their might to fight the enemies in the north, they were attacked by other nations on the southern border of Israel.

- The defeat that Israel suffered was seen as a sign that they were no longer in alignment with God, hence David’s plea for mercy from the Lord who is their defense.

- V.3-4. Though God’s people may suffer defeats due to their sins, when we turn to God in repentance, we will enjoy His mercy and restoration again.

- V.5. God’s promises of being our defense will be activated when we return to Him.

- V.7. God’s promises to each tribe will not come to pass without them doing what God ask them to do. So obedience is key to our deliverance and victory.

- V.11. This is our cry to God when we return home to Him in total submission. It’s only Him who can give us ultimate victory and peace.

August 29.

*Psalm 59.*
- The distress and depression people suffer when those who are supposed to protect them turn against them is profound and very disheartening.

- King Saul who was supposed to be a father to David turned against him because God used David to kill Goliath and obtain freedom for Israel.
- ⁠Instead of rewarding and celebrating David, the king sent soldiers to surround his house and kill the innocent young man.

- Here we see the mixed emotions that people in grave danger express.

- V.4-5. Here David accuses God of being insensitive to his plight. The God who the psalmist will later declare to neither sleep nor slumber, and is his strength and refuge is being accused of sleeping.

- V.11 & 13. Another mixed emotions is found where David asked God not to kill his enemies (V.11) and shortly after he is asking God to do the contrary (V.13).
- ⁠Often times when we are under pressure and intense stress, we speak from both sides of our mouths.

- I will prefer my enemies not to die but to live and see God’s glory displayed in my life.

- V.14-15. This is a picture of what the demonic kingdom and agents of darkness including witches do at night when people are asleep. They go about looking for people to suck life out of them.

- V.16. The righteous who has enjoyed God’s protection throughout the night, wakes up to sing praises to Him.
- ⁠It’s important for us to thank and praise God every time we wake up in the morning for watching over us all night long and during the day.
