KUMBABHISHEKAM INFORMATION

Namaskaram to the devotees of our Sree Panchamukhi Anjaneya Community Center! With the Kumbhabhishekam of our cultural center approaching at the end of May 2023, now is a great time to learn about the cultural significance of this ancient ritual.

Kumbhabhishekam is a Hindu temple ritual that is intended to unite the many mystic powers of the deity into one entity. The name originates from the Sanskrit words Kumbha (which means the Head - denotes the Shikhara or Crown of the Temple) and abhishekam (ritual bathing).

On the appointed day and at an auspicious time, the Kumbha is bathed with the charged and sanctified holy waters in the sacrificial pot, after which point the deity, which was until then only a granite sculptured stone image, is believed to transform into a vibrant and vivid living representation of the deva with innate beatitude, grace and grandeur, conferring divine blessings on all devotees. This sacred ceremony of "awakening" the deity is also known as Prana Pratishtha. Prana Pratishtha is the "life-giving-ceremony" for the temple's vigrahas. It is said "Prema iva sivamaya satyam eva parashivah", roughly translating is Eminent Love, pervading everything in cra God is transcendent Truth all manifest things..." With this importants e welcome the Love and our deities to our own temple.

We hope to see you and your friends, family, and other loved ones at this rare, divine event. This is the first major step in establishing our SPAGC - Sree Panchamuki Anjaneya Cultural Center of Greater Chicago and allowing our friends and family to come pray, and have a beautiful outlet for release of their concerns and worries.
