Dear friends, on this Friday morning, let us draw near to the Savior’s Holy Cross with greater humility. Let us reflect on the fact that Christ, the Sinless One, accepted crucifixion for our sins, whereas we often cannot bear even a single word that upsets us. You see, then, how much work we have to do on our souls? It is not enough to make the Sign of the Cross if we do not also try to crucify some of our own pride, judgment, and malice. Let Friday be an occasion for repentance, not merely for remembrance. Let us ask forgiveness for our transgressions, pray for those who have hurt us, and never forget that beyond the Cross lies the Resurrection. Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and teach us to love You not only with words but with our lives. May the Mother of God be our intercessor and protector. Amen.

We were not promised this Thursday morning last night; we received it as a gift. And perhaps the first great mistake of modern man is waking up convinced that he is entitled to another day. He checks his phone before opening his soul, reads messages before saying "Lord, I thank You," and finds out what the world is doing before remembering Who gave him life. You do not need to start the day with elaborate speeches. Sometimes, a reverent Sign of the Cross, a sincere "God help me!"—spoken without theatrics—and the resolve not to hurt anyone needlessly are enough. Christianity is proven not merely by how many prayers we know, but by the tone we use when speaking to the person beside us. And one more thing: do not ask God to make your day easy. Ask Him not to let you shrink in the face of hardships. For God does not help us grow through comfort, but through truth, patience, and a little humility. And humility—ironically—cannot be downloaded from an app.

We love being Christians—right up until the moment the Gospel asks something of us. We love prayer, we love lighting candles, we love icons. But then Christ comes along and says, "Forgive." And suddenly, we become great experts on justice. We have an extraordinary memory for the wrongs others have done to us, yet selective amnesia regarding our own mistakes. We can recall a remark made seven years ago—down to the exact date, time, and tone of voice—but when it comes to our own actions, the answer is: "I don't quite remember." What a spiritual feat!
Forgiveness does not mean that wrong becomes right, nor does it mean you must return to a place where you are being crushed. It means no longer giving evil the right to dwell within you. "Forgive, and you will be forgiven" is not merely a decorative phrase; it is spiritual surgery. Sometimes it hurts precisely because it draws out the pus we had grown accustomed to calling "justice." You cannot ask God for peace while simultaneously harboring war in your heart.

We are accustomed to asking God for great signs, yet we pass indifferently by the small miracles that hold an entire household together: someone still waiting for you, a child still calling out to you, a mother still praying for you, a loaf of bread placed quietly on the table. We crave thunder from the heavens, while God often works through the whisper of a patience we failed to cherish. And then we wonder why our souls wither. How could they not, when we feed them nothing but haste, comparison, and discontent? Not everything missing from your life is a loss. Sometimes God removes the noise so you can hear what needs mending. At other times, He closes a door because, had you entered, you would have walked in with your pride and walked out with a battered soul. Stop constantly asking for "more." Ask instead to see clearly what you already have. Gratitude does not make life easy, but it makes it real. And, remarkably, the person who gives thanks for the little things discovers that they were not living in poverty, but in inattention.
