To take our minds off the weight of the world (some of which we recently posted about), and maybe even feel some joy, please come out the first of three Cabaret performances is tonight at Capri Lounge. The event begins at 8 PM, and is free to anybody 21+. Donations are being accepted however, all of which will go to a likeminded/likehearted community or cause each week.

The donations tonight are going to support the Equality Clinic of Augusta. Here's a link to register and donate: https://onrealm.org/UnitarianUniver28875/PublicRegistrations/Event?linkString=OTY2NmM5YjAtMTA3Ny00ZjJjLWEzNWUtYjQ1MDAxM2QyZTMy Please note, you do not have to donate to come. And yet, if you do, you'll be included on a priority karaoke list, which will begin around 9 PM after the cabaret is over.

In addition to some fantastic singers like Russell Joel Brown, I'm performing on a few tunes tonight. I'll be doing much more next Thursday when all donations will come to the UU Church. If you want to register and donate for next week (June 11th), please do so here: https://onrealm.org/UnitarianUniver28875/PublicRegistrations/Event?linkString=YjkzZDA1YjUtODk0Zi00ZGJmLThkZDAtYjQ1MDAxNDJhYTRl

The final performance on June 18th will feature our very own Matt Kridel among others. Donations for that evening will be given to Augusta Pride. Please register here for that one - if you'd like: https://onrealm.org/UnitarianUniver28875/PublicRegistrations/Event?linkString=MmZkZjkzYzMtNDEzZi00YzY0LTllNGMtYjQ1MDAxNDYxMmFi

Thanks so much and I hope to see you tonight for what I'm sure will be a great & joy-full (if not marginally inappropriate) evening!

um... the DoD, led by Christian Nationalist and N**i Pete Hegseth (pictured below) "has dramatically reduced its number of recognized religious faiths and belief systems by approximately 180.... This restructuring of faith codes, which help identity [sic] service members as well as the military in planning for appropriated [sic] religious coverage to include them, has now excluded minority faith/worldview groups, including Atheists... Deists... Humanists... Pagan... Shaman... AND UNITARIAN UNIVERSALISTS"!!!!

This is starkly unconstitutional and outrageous. 🤬🤬🤬

Much love to the many UU, pagan, humanist, atheist, indigenous service members who this impacts. Many of whom attend or have attended this congregation.

It has never been easy to be a person of progressive faith, especially in a time when Christian Nationalist ideas are so pervasive and religious practice can be manipulated in service to power and greed. Even in these painful times, let us remain steadfast in our Unitarian Universalist identity, confident in our knowing that our covenantal faith and practices, grounded in shared values, offer so much of what is needed to minister to this beautiful and struggling world.

As a people of a freely chosen faith centered on love, what spiritual teachings keep us grounded in the work? What comforts us in times of struggle? What moves us to make room for others’ perspectives and experiences in our own understandings of life? Treasure those resources. Celebrate them for the spiritual development that they offer. Above all else, share them with each other, for we become more than we were when we journey together.

What might the future of Unitarian Universalism look like?

From music-centered worship and campus ministry to contemplative gatherings and justice networks, new UU communities supported by the UUA’s New Communities Fund are exploring fresh ways of gathering, belonging, and living our faith beyond traditional models.

This story from UU World highlights the creativity, courage, and spiritual imagination shaping the future of Unitarian Universalism — and the people building communities grounded in connection, care, and transformation.

Mother’s Day can hold many things at once.

For some, it is a day of joy, gratitude, and celebration.
For others, it carries grief, estrangement, longing, exhaustion, complicated relationships, or the ache of what never was.

Today, we honor all who nurture, care for, protect, guide, and love others in ways both named and unnamed. We hold close those missing their mothers, grieving children, navigating infertility or loss, carrying complicated family histories, or moving through this day with mixed emotions.

May we meet one another with gentleness.
May we make room for the fullness of people’s experiences.
And may all who need care today receive a little more of it. 💛

In the most recent Mosaic newsletter, Rev. Michael J. Crumpler offers a reflection on the ways oppression can continue shaping us long after the visible violence ends.

He writes about isolation, grief, disconnection, shame, anger, and exhaustion—not as personal failures, but as symptoms of systems designed to harm.

But the reflection also offers another truth:
“If oppression can be internalized, so can liberation.”

Healing, then, becomes more than personal work. It becomes communal, spiritual, and political work. The work of learning new ways to care for one another—and ourselves.

There's so much work to do for Beloved Community. May we keep the faith as we move forward. May we continue getting into good trouble... necessary trouble.

The Supreme Court's 6-3 decision in Louisiana v. Callais is a profound moral wound, not only to the people of Louisiana, but to the promise of a multiracial democracy. This decision invalidates Louisiana’s second Congressional district and paves the way for states to dismantle Black and Latino vot
