What does greatness look like to you?

Today Pastor Carrel continued The Real Jesus series in Mark 10, reminding us that true greatness is not found in being served, but in serving others.

Jesus modeled humility, moved toward the overlooked, served even when it was costly, and ultimately gave His life to bring people back to God. He did not need a title to serve, and neither do we.

The real Jesus did not come to be served, but to serve.

May we be known for the same kind of humility, compassion, and sacrifice.

The moment you reshape Jesus to appease another person is the moment that person becomes the governor of your life.

Think about that carefully.
When you soften what Jesus says to keep a relationship comfortable, you are not just editing theology. You are handing that person authority over your life that belongs only to Jesus. When you change what you believe about Him to avoid conflict, to fit in, or to keep someone's approval, you have made them your lord and not Him.

Jesus was clear. Fear God not man. The one who can destroy the body is far less dangerous than the one who governs your soul. And yet we constantly make decisions about who Jesus is based on what the people around us need Him to be.

Every time we reshape Jesus to attract or appease someone else we are declaring that their opinion matters more than His truth. And in that moment we have a new governor. It is just not Jesus.

Who is actually governing your life?

One of the hardest parts of finding a church home can simply be finding your people.

Maybe you’ve thought, “I like the church, but I just don’t know anyone.”

So let’s change that.

What has helped YOU go from attending church to actually feeling connected?

Drop your answer in the comments. You never know who might need your encouragement today.

Jesus is not an accessory we add to the life we choose to live.

That is exactly how many people treat Him.
They keep the life they have built, the relationships, the habits, the identity, the ambitions, and add Jesus on top of it like a finishing touch. They want Him to bless their plans, validate their choices, and show up when they need Him. But they are not willing to let Him govern anything.

That is not Christianity. That is decoration.
The real Jesus does not ask to be added to your life. He asks to be Lord of it. He will not be an accessory to your chosen identity. He calls you to die to self, leave everything, and follow Him — not because He wants to take something from you but because He is worth more than anything you would have to let go of.

Is Jesus king or are you still ruling your life?

Your greatest temptation to reshape Jesus is when what you love most stands in opposition to Him.

This is where it gets personal.
It is easy to follow Jesus when He agrees with your life. When His teaching lines up with your relationships, your politics, your lifestyle, and your preferences, there is no tension. No cost. No decision to make.

But the moment Jesus says something that cuts against what you love most — that is the real test. That is where most people quietly stop following Jesus and start following a version of Him they have edited to fit their agenda.

American culture has given us a Jesus who is always a unifier, never offensive, and a perpetual validator. But that Jesus does not exist in scripture. The real Jesus brings division. He takes a sword to the things that stand between us and full allegiance to Him.
What is it that you love so much that you have been willing to reshape Jesus rather than surrender it?

Who governs your life?

Today Pastor Nick continued The Real Jesus series in Matthew 10:28-39, reminding us that our greatest temptation to reshape Jesus often comes when what we love most stands in opposition to Him.

The real Jesus is not an accessory we add to the life we already want. He calls for our full allegiance, and following Him will sometimes require us to die to what competes for His place in our lives.

We were challenged to ask: Am I following Jesus as He is, or reshaping Him to protect what I am unwilling to surrender?
