As we move forward together, we invite you to join us for our annual Nihkaniyane: Let’s Go Forward Together celebration on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at Wolfe’s Neck in Freeport.

In just these past few years, we have accomplished so much; none of it would have been possible without your steadfast support. From the early days of building our coalition to tracking and recording critical votes in the Maine legislature, your dedication has sustained us.

Earlier this spring, we hosted historic candidate forums in Houlton, Presque Isle and on Indian Island for those running for highest offices in our homelands called Maine. While we are heartened by the commitments and dialogue we heard, we take nothing for granted. Challenges lie ahead, but we remain incredibly hopeful about the powerful opportunities on the horizon.

Before the hard work of the upcoming legislative season starts again, please join us to celebrate our shared progress. Enjoy a lovely evening dedicated to honoring Wabanaki sovereignty, building community, and sustaining the momentum we’ve created together. As always, Wabanaki citizens attend for free. We hope to see you there!

Meeting the Moment is an effort that is calling Unitarian Universalists to pay attention to the world around us, make meaning of what we are seeing, and take actions shaped by our shared values. The goal of this service is to raise awareness about the wave of activities taking place in UU churches across the country and locally in response to the injustices playing out in our communities.

The Woodlands returns September 6! 🌳

This monthly online spiritual community is beginning a new season of connection, care, joy, and rest for trans, non-binary, Two-Spirit, gender-expansive, intersex, gender-blessed, and gender non-conforming people—and those who love them.

And this year, The Woodlands is growing. We’re excited to introduce Sweetgums, a new dedicated space for the partners and spouses of trans people, alongside small community groups for trans youth and adults, parents, caregivers, and families.

Rooted in Unitarian Universalist values, The Woodlands offers a space where trans lives are not up for debate or explanation, but are honored as sacred, whole, and worthy of care.

Monthly gatherings resume September 6 at 5 p.m. Eastern / 2 p.m. Pacific.

Beloveds, if you are able, I hope you will watch this Sunday as NASA launches their Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, designed to explore some of the universe’s biggest mysteries, including dark energy.

The telescope is named for lifelong and devoted Unitarian and later Unitarian Universalist, who was also NASA’s first chief astronomer, Nancy Grace Roman. A longtime member of the River Road Unitarian Universalist Congregation RRUUC in Bethesda, MD, Roman was as committed to serving her community, especially around issues of poverty and food insecurity, as she was to fearlessly advancing science in her role at NASA.

For some students, teachers, families, and school communities, the new school year is already underway. For others, those first days are just around the corner.

As another school year begins, we’re thinking especially of the students, educators, staff, caregivers, and families stepping into new classrooms, campuses, routines, relationships, and expectations.

May our schools be places where every person is welcomed in the fullness of who they are—places where students and educators are safe, where curiosity is nurtured, differences are honored, and everyone has the opportunity to learn, grow, and belong.

In the words of Rev. Debra Haffner’s blessing, "A New Year for Beloved Community":

“We gather together at the start of this new year
With gratitude and love
For those who have come before us
For those who stand here with us
May it be a good year. May it be a sweet year.”

To everyone beginning a new school year: may it be a year of learning, safety, belonging, growth, and beloved community. 💛

Federal court records have revealed that the First Universalist Church of Minneapolis was among Minnesota churches and community organizations secretly surveilled by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

The Unitarian Universalist Association condemns this intrusion into a house of worship and the targeting of people exercising their constitutional rights to organize, dissent, and act according to their faith.

First Universalist has been clear that this surveillance will not deter its ministry or its commitment to its neighbors. As Rev. Jen Crow told UU World, “We are not surprised and we are not daunted because we are clear about who we are and what we do.”

Our faith calls us to courageous, prophetic work—and to act together against intimidation, government overreach, and attacks on the right to organize peacefully.

So often when joy appears in our lives we are met with feelings of happiness. But at times also guilt. Must joy for us always be a hard-won experience? Might we instead deservingly allow joy in our lives, in far more than just teaspoon size amounts?

A special thank you to our worship arts team. Lori Milner will be our worship associate. Betty Cairn will run the worship slides developed by Angie Blevins. Angie also developed our Reminder video and will service as our Boxcast tech. Our pianist will be Stefanie Barley.

Other members of the team are our usher, Liz Langone and our leadership greeter, Karen. Our fellowship coffee hour may not happen as volunteer hosts have not been identified as of this posting.
