📜 Written by Saint Teresa of Ávila - a 16th-century Spanish Carmelite nun, mystic, and Doctor of the Church - this prayer (popularly known as "Saint Teresa's Bookmark") was composed during the 16th century as a personal reflection to cultivate peace, endurance, and deep trust in God amid the intense hardships, serious illnesses, and opposition she faced while reforming the Carmelite Order. The prayer earned its famous title because, following her death in 1582, the original lines penned in her own handwriting were discovered tucked inside her daily breviary prayer book.
