I wanted to look godlier than I really was so I acted sinfully and lied about how much good I was doing. I did bad to look good. That led to bad consequences.

Ananias and Sapphira wanted to look more generous than they really were, so they lied about how much money they gave. The Holy Spirit changes our hearts to want to share with those in need. Jesus generously gave all He had so we can share in His riches and have forgiveness and eternal life (from Lifeway).

If you're considering travel ball/club sports for your kids, read and reflect on this interview with a college athletic director who put his own child in travel ball. With more wear and tear and specialization at a young age, kids are more likely to get significant injuries (i.e. more Tommy John surgeries in Little League than in MLB!). Then there's the financial and time considerations - and the spiritual ones.

Like anything on this side of heaven, youth sports can be used to glorify God. But it can also become an idol.

Pastor Ben couldn't go to Pastor James's office because he had wronged him - unless he came with CJ. CJ was like a kind of priest, or mediator. He gave Pastor Ben access to Pastor James. Just like that, Jesus is our high priest and mediator to God the Father. He interceded on behalf of the people by laying down His life to be a once-and-for-all sacrifice for sin.
