Frankford Plains United Methodist Church

Frankford Plains United Methodist Church Join us for worship each week at 10:00 a.m. on Sundays! United Methodists also share four main guidelines for belief. Water is the special symbol of baptism.

What We Believe
The Frankford Plains United Methodist Church is connected to the global ministries of the United Methodist Church. We believe that, by working together with churches throughout the world, we can do more of God’s work than any one church could do alone. The distinguishing marks of a United Methodist are probably best illustrated by a commitment to the basics of Christianity and by a

Christian lifestyle, rather than by assenting to a particular scheme of beliefs. United Methodists share a common heritage with other Christians:

Conviction that God has mercy and love for all people
Belief in a triune God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit
Faith in the mystery of salvation through Jesus Christ
Celebration of the sacraments
In these and many other ways, United Methodism affirms the unity of all Christians in the Body of Christ. These guidelines help us understand our faith and make choices in our life; they include the following:

Scripture
Tradition
Experience
Reason
For United Methodists, baptism is the sacrament of initiation that joins us with the church and Christians everywhere. It’s a symbol of new life, a promise of God’s saving love, and a sign of God’s forgiveness for our sins. Both infants and adults can be baptized, because God offers the primary work in the sacrament. A person receives the sacrament only once in his or her life. United Methodists baptize by sprinkling, immersion, or pouring. "Ever-loving God,
your Son Jesus Christ healed the sick
and restored them to wholeness of life.
Look with compassion on the anguish of the world,
and by your power make whole both people and nations;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen."

-From The Methodist Worship Book (Peterborough, England: Methodist Publishing House, 1999), page 547.

***Please join us on Sunday 6/7 at 10 am for our worship service. It will be the first week of the Adverbial Faith Worship Series (https://www.umcdiscipleship.org/articles/miracle-sunday-worship-study-resources -series)

*Worship recap & preview*
Last Sunday, we had an awesome Hymn Sing Service. John did an awesome job staying on the ball.

This coming Sunday we will begin a worship series (developed by Discipleship Ministries) which spotlights the UMC's recently comprised vision statement: "The United Methodist Church forms disciples of Jesus Christ who, empowered by the Holy Spirit, love boldly, serve joyfully, and lead courageously in local communities and worldwide connections." This week, we will lay the groundwork by considering what it means to be a disciple, and our texts will be Ephesians 4:11-16 and Luke 5:1-11

*Participate in worship services through giving the Children's Message*
"Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it." - Proverbs 22:6, NLT.

While God's children should always recognize that there is more to learn, one of the great gifts that youths and adults (who are STILL children to God) can give to their younger siblings is sharing the knowledge they have so far. An exciting way to do this is through providing the Children's Message during our worship seirvices. If you have been feeling led to do this, please reach out to me.

*Slide Ministers*
If you would be interested in volunteering to run the slides during worship services, please reach out to me. I am also looking for people who would be interested in helping to prepare the slide presentations, and proof-read the hymn lyrics.

Do you have testimonial stories, pictures, or items based on ways that you see God working through FPUMC, in your life or in the greater community, that you are interested in sharing? If so, please reach out to me. God is doing wondrous works through this awesome community and its faithful generosity, so let us praise God and encourage each other through sharing God's goodness. We are also looking for people to share pictures of our ministries so that we can post them on our social media pages: Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/frankfordplains).

Do you know of a cool event going on in the community that you think your siblings in Christ at FPUMC may enjoy? A volunteer event, baseball game, program at the park or library that you are doing, and you wouldn't mind some company at? Let your church family know! It can be a great way to build community as we do these things together :)

"27 John replied, “No one can receive anything unless God gives it from heaven. 28 You yourselves know how plainly I told you, ‘I am not the Messiah. I am only here to prepare the way for him.’ 29 It is the bridegroom who marries the bride, and the bridegroom’s friend is simply glad to stand with him and hear his vows. Therefore, I am filled with joy at his success. 30 He must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less." - John 3:27-30, NLT
