Ezekiel 16 – Pastor Mac Daily DEVO

But you trusted in your beauty and played the w***e because of your renown and lavished your whorings on any passerby; your beauty became his. You took some of your garments and made for yourself colorful shrines, and on them played the w***e. The like has never been, nor ever shall be. Ezekiel 16:15-16 – While we’ve had some hard for us to understand messages from the Lord to Ezekiel so far, the message in this chapter isn’t in that category. Israel is compared to an abandoned in the field infant that was left to die. God found her, raised her, blessed her with everything she could ever need and more, and made her His own. Yet when she was grown, she took all those blessings as gave them away to others. Israel gave herself to idol after idol, when the Lord was the one who found her, blessed her in abundance, and spoke life into her. We see the broken heart of the Lord in this verse in that phrase at the end of verse 15, “Your beauty became his.” It’s the words of someone in love seeing the one they love give themselves over to someone else instead. As believers today, so much of the chapter can be connected to our story too. God saw us in our lowest space and He spoke life into us. He raised us and blessed us beyond what we deserve. We are His, but are we “giving our beauty” to someone else? Is something else in our life other than the Lord getting our attention, devotion, and love? Remember who loves you more than anyone or anything in the world. Remember who saw you in the dark when everyone else rejected you. Remember who saved your life. It was Jesus, it was the Lord. Let’s make sure today that the One receiving our “beauty” is the One who saved us. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac - Daily DEVO 3569

Ezekiel 15 – Pastor Mac Daily DEVO

Is wood taken from it to make anything? Do people take a peg from it to hang any vessel on it? Behold, it is given to the fire for fuel. When the fire has consumed both ends of it, and the middle of it is charred, is it useful for anything? Ezekiel 15:3-4 – If you were stuck in the forest, a fruitless vine would do nothing for you. It can’t offer you food, it can’t be used to for much of anything except fuel to keep your fire going. This is the image the Lord is creating to describe Israel. Israel was this fruitless vine. Offering the Lord no good thing and useless for His purposes. Yet Israel had a mindset that since they were the “chosen vine” that no harm would ever come their way. We see in this chapter the Lord address that bold, yet incorrect belief. As the vine is only good for fuel for the fire, so would the “chosen vine” be cast into the fire. Let’s take to heart what we are hearing. If Israel, the people of God, still had to face the fire due to their sin, how are we to think our sin has no consequences? God has made it plain what is sin and what isn’t, and He also has made it known to us through the stories of scripture He is willing to use drastic means to course correct our sinful lives. While believers in Jesus will never face the fires of Hell, do we really want our story to be a fruitless and useless vine for the Lord? If then you are not a follower of Jesus, I encourage you today to make that choice for what’s ahead for you is only the fire, but through Jesus you can be saved from that. If you are a follower of Jesus already, how useful has your life been to the Lord? I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac - Daily DEVO 3568

Ezekiel 14 – Pastor Mac Daily DEVO

Therefore speak to them and say to them, Thus says the Lord God: Any one of the house of Israel who takes his idols into his heart and sets the stumbling block of his iniquity before his face, and yet comes to the prophet, I the Lord will answer him as he comes with the multitude of his idols, that I may lay hold of the hearts of the house of Israel, who are all estranged from me through their idols. Ezekiel 14:4-5 – Let’s set the scene. A group of leaders of Israel approach Ezekiel one day, apparently seeking some words from the Lord. The Lord though reveals to Ezekiel the hidden idolatry happening in the lives of these men and God makes it clear how He was going to speak to such leaders. God was going to make a word known to them, but it was a word of judgement. What’s amazing though is we see the Lord in this chapter elaborate on why that would be the direction He’d take in responding. It was so that the Lord could recapture the heart of His people that had been taken by idols. So many were estranged from the Lord because of their idol worship and their hearts weren’t for the Lord, but God would still speak to them yet it would be an announcement of the judgements He would bring. While none of us enjoy reading about the consequences these people had to face because of their sinfulness, it is a comfort to see God’s purposes behind allowing such intense judgment. It wasn’t for the fun of hurting people, it was to open the eyes of people to their sin and to recapture His people’s hearts. Know when God moves against the sin in our life, it’s not for our harm but for our good. He is seeking to recapture our heart that we’ve allowed sin to have. Let’s then be willing to change our ways before the Lord has to take more drastic measures to bring about that change. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac - Daily DEVO 3567

Ezekiel 13 – Pastor Mac Daily DEVO

Because you have disheartened the righteous falsely, although I have not grieved him, and you have encouraged the wicked, that he should not turn from his evil way to save his life, therefore you shall no more see false visions nor practice divination. I will deliver my people out of your hand. And you shall know that I am the Lord. Ezekiel 13:22-23 – Amongst the people of Israel were false prophets, both men and women who were speaking falsehoods to God’s people which led the people astray. When you imagine a false prophet, likely you think of someone spreading untruths about things with the devious plan to lead people into sin. That is exactly what was happening in Ezekiel day, these prophets were spreading messages that completely contradicted the messages God was saying and the result was people staying on course with their sin. Yet from these verses we see another means of corruption that was brought by these false prophets, a disheartening of the righteous. Not only did these false prophets lead sinning people deeper into their sin, but also righteous people into discouragement and doubt. While you likely don’t carry the label of “false prophet,” we do see two dangerous impacts our words can have if we aren’t careful to be speaking the truth of the Lord. We can encourage those in sin to remain in sin and we can also discourage those living righteously. Two things that are very much against what we’re called to do. Take in all the ways that scripture tells us to speak and speak the things God calls us to say. If our unchecked, unholy words can have such a sinful impact on people’s lives, make sure the words that come from your mouth are words that would honor the Lord. Ezekiel 12 – Pastor Mac Daily DEVO

“Son of man, behold, they of the house of Israel say, ‘The vision that he sees is for many days from now, and he prophesies of times far off.’ Therefore say to them, Thus says the Lord God: None of my words will be delayed any longer, but the word that I speak will be performed, declares the Lord God.” Ezekiel 12:27-28 – The message the people of God were receiving from Ezekiel was one they didn’t want to receive, nor did it mirror the messages coming from the false prophets they loved to listen to. Ezekiel’s message was that captivity was not going to end anytime soon, in fact even more from Jerusalem were going to be carried away into exile to join them. In the verses above, while it appears the people are at least acknowledging Ezekiel as a messenger of God, they made a grave mistake. They accepted the message, but rejected the timeline. Sure, God was going to do such things, but that won’t be for many days from now. This way of thinking is a dangerous one for people today as well. For we to may agree that the statements we hear from scripture are true and are actually coming from God, but we may dismiss anything about the timeline attached to those statements. “Sure, there are consequences to sin, but that won’t come for a while.” “Sure, we all die and either go to Heaven or Hell, but I got time to decide on that.” Know in examples like this I’m grateful to see the acknowledgement of God’s word as true, but it’s devasting to see how the enemy can lure us into being lack in following God’s word in the time we need to. Hear this, the time to follow God’s word is now. The time to stop sinning is now. The time to place your faith in Him is now. Don’t be like the people in Ezekiel’s day saying you have time, for today may be your last day to make the choice to follow Jesus. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac - Daily DEVO 3565
