Each month, on Potluck Sunday, the second Sunday of the month, the funds from our offertory conneyction are given away to a worthy nonprofit organization that is actively involved in meaningful work aligned with our UU values in the community toward creating a better, more equitable world for all.

This month’s recipient for our GOTP will be Casa Alterna, following the inspiring visit from their Founding Director, Anton Flores-Maisonet, in May.

During his service, Anton shared a powerful message about radical hospitality, reminding us that love must cross every border and that every person deserves to be met with dignity, hospitality, and hope.

You can learn more about their sanctuary of love and how to support them at casaalterna.org.

What does it mean to have a home? For generations, owning a home has been the cornerstone of the American Dream — a symbol of stability, dignity, and belonging. Yet for millions of our neighbors across this nation and right here in Alabama, that dream is not simply delayed — for many, it will never come.

This Sunday, we are simply opening the conversation — an honest, compassionate look at the housing crisis facing our nation and our neighbors right here in Alabama, because before we can act, we must first be willing to see.

This Pride Month, put your values into action.

The UUSC: Unitarian Universalist Service Committee the UUA, and Trans Religious professional UUs Together (TRUUsT) are inviting people and congregations to submit public comments opposing a proposed HUD rule that would make federally funded shelters less safe for transgender, nonbinary, two-spirit, and intersex people.

Every unique comment helps build the case for protecting access to safe shelter and housing with dignity. You can also host a Coffee and Comments event with your congregation or community using the campaign's downloadable guide and resources.

Learn more about the proposed rule, why it matters, and how to participate at the link in comments.

Public comments close Monday, June 28.

Memorial Day Prayer

Spirit of Life
whom we have called by many names
in thanksgiving and in anguish—

Bless the poets and those who mourn
Send peace for the soldiers who did not make the wars
but whose lives were consumed by them

Let strong trees grow above graves far from home
Breathe through the arms of their branches
The earth will swallow your tears while the dead sing
“No more, never again, remember me.”

For the wounded ones, and those who received them back,
let there be someone ready when the memories come
when the scars pull and the buried metal moves
and forgiveness for those of us who were not there
for our ignorance.

And in us, veterans in a forest of a thousand fallen
promises,
let new leaves of protest grow on our stumps.

Give us courage to answer the cry of humanity’s pain
And with our bare hands, out of full hearts,
with all our intelligence
let us create the peace.
