Choir and Schola of Saint Mary's Church, Auburn

Choir and Schola of Saint Mary's Church, Auburn For friends, supporters, and members of the Choir and Schola of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Auburn.

The tradition of great music at Saint Mary's Church dates back well into the 1800s. The Barckhoff gallery organ was installed in 1890, the House chancel organ dates from 1872, and both are listed on the Organ Historical Society's register of nationally significant instruments. The polyphonic choir dates back to the 1890s and has never missed a season. We continue our tradition with choral masses and polyphonic motets, Gregorian Chant, and outstanding organ music.

Following a beautiful Midnight Mass, St. Mary's Choir is in full swing again for its Winter/Spring 2022 season and is seeking new members. We are looking especially for sopranos and altos, although all voice parts will be warmly welcomed. The choir is comprised of members of all ages, from high school to retirement. Being Catholic is not a requirement to join. We rehearse on Wednesday evenings from 7pm-8:30 and sing weekly at the 10:45 Sunday morning Mass. We sing two anthems each week, and among the composers on our Spring schedule are Tallis, Bruckner, and Rheinberger. If interested, please contact Music Director Chelsea Bosnar at [email protected]. We look forward to hearing from you!

For the first time in 18 months, choristers are excited to be back together again, preparing for the Solemnity of the Assumption, the 10:45 Mass on Sunday, August 15. With Arcadelt's much-loved setting of the Ave Maria and Christoph Dalitz's new setting of the Magnificat, as well as the Missa de Angelis Mass Ordinary and sung Psalm and Propers, we will celebrate Mary's glorious Assumption into Heaven.

The Diocese of Rochester has suspended all public liturgies due to the Coronavirus pandemic. This includes all Masses, Compline, Stations of the Cross, and any other liturgy we planned to celebrate together. The church remains open for private prayer, and funerals and weddings may still be celebrated with less than 50 people in attendance. Our priests continue to offer Holy Masses privately, for the scheduled intentions. Please pray for those who are sick, for all healthcare providers, and for those who have died.
