The world is not the product of blind chance or meaningless chaos.
Again and again Genesis says: “And God said…”
The Father creates through His Word in the Holy Spirit.
Creation itself reflects the ordered goodness of the God who made it.

Modern life often promises fulfillment through radical independence:
define yourself, reinvent yourself, answer only to yourself.
Yet beneath all the noise many still feel isolated and restless.
Genesis reveals why: humanity was never created for isolated self-existence.
We were created by communion and for communion — first with God,
then with one another.

Before the world existed, the Father loved the Son in the fellowship of the Holy Spirit.
Creation did not flow from loneliness or chaos, but from the fullness of the Triune God.
You were not made accidentally.
You were created intentionally by the God who is eternal communion.
“Let us make man in our image.”
— Genesis 1:26

Pentecost is the beginning of the great harvest of the Gospel.
The people came to Jerusalem bringing first fruits from their fields.
Instead, through Peter’s preaching,
they themselves became the first fruits gathered into Christ’s Church through repentance, Baptism, and faith.
The Spirit still gathers His Church through the Gospel today.

The Holy Spirit does not direct us inward to discover ourselves.
The Holy Spirit directs us outward:
to Christ,
to His cross,
to His resurrection,
to Baptism,
to the promises of Scripture,
and to the forgiveness of sins won by Jesus.

The crowds came to Jerusalem looking for God in the temple.
But Jesus revealed the true temple:
He Himself would dwell with His people,
and through the Holy Spirit,
God would make His dwelling within believing hearts.
Pentecost is about God coming near through Christ.

Jesus cried out at the Feast of Tabernacles:
“If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink.”
— John 7:37
Pentecost reveals what Jesus meant.
The Holy Spirit pours the living water of Christ’s salvation into thirsty sinners through the Gospel.

At Pentecost, the miracle was not meaningless noise or unintelligible chaos.
The crowds heard clearly:
Christ crucified,
Christ risen,
Christ ascended,
Christ for sinners.
The Holy Spirit still works through the clear promises of God’s Word to create faith in Christ today.

Jerusalem on Pentecost was full of noise:
crowds, languages, music, celebration.
But the Holy Spirit brought clarity.
People from every nation heard the mighty works of God proclaimed clearly in their own language.
The Spirit’s work is always to point hearts to Jesus Christ and His saving work.

Today, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice reminds us of the words of Jesus in John 15:13: “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”

As we gather with family and friends this Memorial Day, may we never forget those who paid the ultimate price for the freedoms we enjoy each day. We pray for the families who carry both pride and loss, and we ask God to bring comfort, peace, and hope to every heart.

Join us in taking a moment to reflect, remember, and give thanks.
