Hello everyone,
Here is a great workshop some of you might be interested in.
The North America West Institutes of Religion wanted to make you aware of a special opportunity on Wednesday night, March 10 at 8:30pm (PST).
As a part of a Workshop on “Racial Issues and The Church of Jesus Christ,” we were able to get W. Paul Reeve to speak to us and do a Q and A.
Bro. Reeve is a History Professor at the University of Utah, and the author of the book “Religion of Another Color: Race and the Mormon Struggle for Whiteness.” He is arguably the most knowledgeable scholar in (or out of) the Church on the history of the Church as it intersects with issues of race – in the time period between the Prophet Joseph Smith and the 1978 Official Declaration. (And he’s pretty good beyond that as well.)
Having him be able to join us is a blessing of the pandemic. We would love to have him see “screens full of people” there to learn. It is not required to register for the Workshop to join for this one night, nor is anyone required to attend beyond this night (although there are other good guest speakers in succeeding weeks . . .).
But . . . if you want a great opportunity to understand what happened in the latter half of the 19th century and first part of the 20th century on this complex issue, this might be worth an hour or so on Wednesday night.
The Zoom link can be found at ConnectYSA.org on the listing for this Workshop.
