"So, for the sake of your tradition, you nullify the word of God. These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship of me is pointless, because their teachings are rules made by humans” Matt. 15:6, 8-9 / Isaiah 29:13
Evangelism starts with love. It’s not an optional way to evangelize, it’s the whole thing. If we aren’t a beacon of love that all are drawn to, then we have missed everything. If we are perceived as being on the side of fear and hatred, rather than the light of the world, then there is a deep problem with the way we are presenting our faith.
We are told the great commission to go into all the world is the most important thing we can do with our lives. “By this the world will know you are my disciple, by your love for one another.”
“I could have faith so strong, it can move mountains, but still not have love. And without love, I GAIN NOTHING.”
“Love your neighbor as yourself. On this, hangs ALL the law and prophets.” Jesus tells us all laws are not equal. That loving EVERYONE was on the same level as loving God, and that literally everything else was secondary and meaningless without the first.
We are told so clearly what the point of all this is. How we can become the best version of ourselves and be a light to the world. Yet we focus our resources and time putting our traditions above love, breaking the greatest command, missing the forest for the trees.
If everyone who claimed to be a Christian actually practiced the great commission in love, this world would be a truly incredible place. Do you trust enough to at least try?
It’s time to do one of the most meaningful things you can do for the church. You aren’t a rebel or a trouble maker for holding leadership and others accountable for breaking the law of love. You are the light.
